Retaining baby teeth, questions? Ok, my little girl just turned 8 months old and she still has 4 of her baby teeth. Not sure what they are called but she has all four corners top and bottom. Looks a little wierd with two sets. So do I need to get these removed right away? is there a chance they still might fall out? the feel pretty stable. thanks all |
They could fall out but most likely not. If they are left for too long, there may be problems. They are usually pulled during spay/neuter. |

I'm not sure what the vet would say about 4 baby teeth retained. Many people get them removed when they are spayed/neutered. I'd love to hear other peoples experiences with this issue. |
My Bernie had 4 teeth that had to be removed, and it was done when he was neutered. I had him neutered at 9 months. But, before I could get the teeth extracted one of his teeth got pushed out by a baby tooth, so it's a little crooked. It doesn't cause any problems. Just get them out while she's under anesthesia, more than likely they aren't going to fall out. It's commons for them to retain some. |

old and his one is sort of crooked now! Doesn't bother him though. |
Whoa, I say hold up a bit longer. Jemma has double sets of the canines. The two top and bottom long ones. She is 8 months and just today lost one. I keep playing with them and loosen them a bit. Guess it worked for one, lol. But my vet said she still has some time that she could lose them. So I'm just holding off the spaying for awhile longer. Being she now has only 3 left. |
Apple is 8 months and one week, and has 4 canine baby teeth, and her adult teeth are in by them...I called the vet a couple of weeks ago, and he said not to worry about it 'till she was a year old...However, I wasn't going to have her spayed 'till she was 18 months old, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do  ...I guess if they start giving her trouble, I'll have to get her spayed earlier, and I don't want to :(, but I don't want her under the anesthetic twice either... |
As some of you know .Andy had to have 19 baby teeth removed .Not because we wanted to wait it was because it was causing problems and omg I will never forget how bad his breath was .No matter what we did . |
Thanks so much folks. I really appreciate the replies. I think we are going to wait a little before we get her spayed and that will give a little more time for the teeth. I need to do some reading on the spaying. It should be done right? I have no plans on any type of breeding. I hate the thought of her going under. Thanks again |
