Is it ok to give pup pig ears to chew on for their teeth? and those other hard bones that they sell |
They aren't the best choice. Bully sticks are generally considered quite a bit safer. |
The first few years I raised yorkies I would give them pig ears. I would cut them into strips. Dogs love them, really too much. Mine would eat the whole thing and sometimes they would throw up afterwords. They would also get into fights over pig ears. I finally decided that pig ears were not the best choice and I started buying cow ears and cow hooves and I have had great success with those. I cut the cow ears in half using tin snips. The cow ears and the hooves last a long time and really help with keeping the teeth clean. |
Lola likes pigs ears but I feel they're a lil too big for her so I cut them into small pieces.(one big ear I cut into three pieces) Also I have noticed if she eats too much of the pig ear her poops are too soft. I recommend you only give your pup a lil at a time to see how he does. Another great alternative would be bully sticks :) |
ok thanks guys |
Those wouldn't be my choice for chewies....I believe there is A LOT of fat in them...and as someone had said...they will throw them up. I would go with the bully sticks...although my Sadie chocked on one so they don't get those anymore. |
Bully sticks only and if you can find the veal ones they are the best and easy to digest. PORK IS BAD WILL HAVE PROBLEMS LATER... |
My first yorkie family loved pigs ears,.,, never got sick but they had them when ever they wanted and never over ate on them.. I use bully sticks now.... anne |
Jackson loves pig ears and does well on them. I usually only give him 1 a week though. He's never gotten sick on them or anything. He also loves bully sticks. |
I've always been afraid of them breaking off a little piece and choking. I think I'd go with the bully sticks. They are definitely safer, for my guys anyway. |
