Annoyed! Hi everyone! I just wanted to vent...I'm not sure if you all remember me posting last year about Fiona having fleas, and the issues I had...well this year I played it smart...or so I thought :confused:....So June 1st I put her frontline on, cuz I didnt want to have issues again...well, this weekend i was trimming her down, and guess what!? I found maybe 2 fleas on her, the rest was all flea dirt! I am sooo annoyed, not really sure what else to do at this point, Maybe the yard needs to be treated!? |

Sorry....guess its been a long day.....could have sworn I read "twice" a month!:( |
I swear by the comfortis. It starts working in half an hour, and then no more fleas. |
It probley would be a good idea to treat the yard. I dont know personally but my papa used to throw Epson salt on the ground to kill fleas and it repels off snakes. I never tried it though. Also dawn dish soap kills fleas... now I have tried that before. Sorry I dont have flea problems here (knock on wood) lol!! |
We have always used Frontline Plus on my two and have yet to have any issues. Make sure to deep clean your home and there is also a pill that you can give your dog that kills all fleas on them immediately- not sure what it is called. I am just consistent on applying the Frontline at the same time each month, good luck! |

Frontline plus has never had issues with me either, being a vet tech i thought i had this down. last year i treated the house, and now she has them...i'll see what i can do! thanks! |
Comfortis has a minimum weight standard, so keep that in mind if you consider it. It does work very well. |
Have you thought about feeding the birds in your backyard? I know, it sounds weird, but once you get them use to coming to your feeder they will also grub on the ground eating any fleas, tics, slugs etc. Have not had any fleas or tics on my two all summer, and I live in the middle of deer country. Stopped using Frontline due to pesticide interaction with their immune system, and since Andromeda got Lymes while on it. |
Sunshine is a big boy(10 lbs) and Confortis works great on him . He has been on it for over a year and has not picked up a flea . Even when his pal the cat was infested , she is now on advantage and they both have no fleas . |
Comfortis works for us so far (was giving 1/2 a pill once a month - tho I suspect this will change next month since she is now 5 lbs). My only concern has been that it appears to only protect her from fleas - what about ticks? Good Luck - I feel for you! |
I'm in an apartment now since my husband died 2 years ago but all the years we were together we lived in a house with a nice fenced in back yard - I was religeous about treating the lawn due to the fact that neighbors had dogs and Houston is a perfect breeding ground for fleas. Never in all those years did we ever have a flea problem - because I treated the yard surrounding my home. But - Now that I moved I have to. I found out fast that the complex has fleas. A GREAT way to kill them safely is bath your pet with DAWN DISH SOAP and rinse rinse rinse. The dawn will cut thru the 'shell' that fleas protect themselves with which is why they can live in water ....but you still need to protect them with a preventative. I use Frontline and also have tried Advantage and found they work pretty well. There is also a pill called CAPSTAR that kills them right away but you still need full time protection - it sucks to have to use anything but it's better than having a flea problem which ....knock on wood - I've really never experienced. I saw a few last summer and caught it quick - never had them in my home and during all the bad months - saw maybe 2 fleas in the bath. IF you have them in your home - you need to treat everything and if you have an ongoing problem ....talk to your vet and they can give you advise of how to prevent being infested. You have to stay on top of it or your yorkie will be miserable and so will you. Oh - you'll need to vacuum your whole home including furniture and places you may not normally vacuum -then throw out the bag - they can hatch long after you've seen them...also wash all bedding etc ....They're nasty nasty little bloodsuckers! There's good sites on the net too - that's the first place I went to when I saw that first flea - sorry this is so long but like everyone - I HATE them and it's so easy for a small flea problem to turn into a big one. |
here's a site to read - ignore the ads....it's basically what I rambled on about plus some more info - good luck - How to Get Rid of Fleas - House and Pets this is really good too ! http://www.fleasmart.com/fleasrx.htm |
