My dogs are all on R C and they are doing good on it. It is not on top not on the bottom in term of qualities, it is average. I like to add some NUPRO (natural dog supplement) to their food a few times a weeks too.

What is Nupro and should I put it in my dogs food. She was just diagnosed with pancreatitis and is on rc low fat.

I had Maddie on RC and we were both happy. She gobbled it up and I was glad to finally find a food she would eat! lol However, after about a month she began getting the itchies. I switched her food to a limited ingredient one and that fixed the problem. RC may not be the "best" as viewed by some, but it is certainly not the worst and I would feel fine about feeding it if it worked for us.

RC isn't a "bad" food - there are several yorkies here who do wonderfully on this food.

For dogs who have any kind of allergies (no matter what kind), RC may not be the best choice for those dogs - but that doesn't make it "bad", just not optimal for certain dogs. Dogs w/ allergies may be vulnerable to some of the ingredients in RC.

Stormy itched on it and refused to eat it after a couple weeks. She was a really picky eater when we first brought her home, she was a year and a half though already. Now she is on Wellness chicken and loves it, no itchies what so ever!

No, it isn't one of the best.. but it isn't the worst either. I did try it with mine but she didn't do well on it so I moved on to other brands. I now feed Innova EVO and so far so good

As previous posters mentioned, RC isn't the worst food, but it certainly isn't the best. I used to feed RC exclusively and my babies did fine, but after I learned that it only got 2 out of 6 stars (and I paid my a*$ off for it) I decided that I needed to try something else.

Now, I homecook according to Dr Pitcairn's book and my dogs have never been healthier. Their breath smells great, their coats are great, their skin is great, they have loads of energy and the best part, the subtle doggie smell of their skin and mouthes has vanished.

I would suggest that you read Dr Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats and then make a decision. That book was the best thing I could ever have bought for my babies. Not only are my dogs healthier, I am saving money! And they love the food! No more problems with picky eaters. They gobble it up in one go and I know exactly what they are eating.

I don't know if RC users realize this, but processed foods cause cancer. And I'm sorry, but I won't give my babies something that will make them sick!

That's a pretty board statement to make. I'm glad you found a diet your dogs do well on, but you are saying that everyone who feeds commercial dog food will have a dog that gets cancer, and I believe that is irresponsible. Scientists don't even know what causes cancer, and over 2000-year-old mummies in South America were found to have cancer, cancer isn't a new thing caused by processed foods. I am so tired of people telling me because I feed Joey RC I'm making him sick. Where's the proof of this?

I'm only trying to give what is best for my Trixie. She has pancreatitis and needs low fat. If you found something that works thats great information to pass along. But to say processed food causes cancer. WHAT?? Walking down the street causes cancer. I have had it with all this causes cancer and that causes cancer. Pass along what works for you that's great but please don't say things like this. It really upsets people.

Ok, proof... Research suggests that environmental pollutants and chemicals in food are major factors in the development and support of this group of diseases. You have heard about all the hormones and chemicals in people food? For example, vegetables are sprayed with chemicals to eliminate pests. These chemicals leaked and leaks into the ground and into the water. So, once in the ground and the water, any plant that grows there will have these chemicals in their bodies. Does that make sense? These pesticides are only known to cause cancer now. Some are still used while others have been discontinued. However, these chemicals are still in the plants that we eat.

Are you grossed out by all the hormones in meats today? Do you now use organic, grain-fed or free-range eggs? When all this research came to light (enough for millions of people around the world to sit up and pay attention), it quickly became common knowledge that consuming all these chemicals and hormones causes disease.

So, if we know it and we use it for ourselves, why don't we apply the same principles to our dogs? The same chemicals affect them and by the way, these chemicals (when they don't cause cancer) lowers your dog's immunity and can make them more susceptible to any diseases and parasites.

You can try googling environmental pollutants, chemicals in vegetables and especially protein to give you a better idea of what I am talking about.

All I am saying is that by giving dogs a natural diet, free of preservatives (that are scientifically known to cause cancer), colourants (some are known to cause cancer) and flavourants (very few are tested for their effects on the body), you can have the healthiest dog there is.

I really didn't mean to tell you that you are making your dog sick and I didn't say that. But if you find that a lot of people are telling you that, maybe there is some reason behind it. I bet they are just trying to help.

It is your prerogative to feed your dog what you want, I was simply trying to shine the light on the fact that RC isn't a good food. We all know it isn't. It's not the worst, but it isn't a good food and I find it hard to justify knowingly giving my dogs a substandard food.
But that's just me.

Compared to the brands you find in the grocery store, it IS better. However, there are MUCH BETTER foods out there than RC. If you are looking for convenience, Petco and Pet Supermarket carry Wellness, which is one of the best big box store brands. However, Petsmart does not carry it.
My personal preference are all natural foods (the brands were listed in a previous post), which can be found at small independent all natural pet supply stores. Also, the people at those stores are normally educated on pet nutrition and can help you find the best food for your yorkie. The better quality ingredients you feed your dog, the better off your dogs immune system will be and the better off your dogs health will be and the better off your wallet will be in the end (by not spending so much money on vet bills).

Maggie was on RC when we got her from the breeder. She never ate it very enthusiastically but stopped eating it shortly after we got her. She would only eat what our other dogs were eating. We tried samples of other puppy foods and even switched to a different food for our adult dogs, but it made no difference. Finally I asked someone knowledgeable about dog food and she recommended a good all life stages food. Her top recommendations were Innova regular adult food or Nature's Variety Prairie foods. I tried Nature's Variety Prairie chicken and brown rice formula because I had a coupon. The dogs all love it and are doing fine on it.

I think AMD is right. I use natures variety and i like the ingredients. And my dogs like that i feed them dry food, wet food and raw food it gives my picky eaters alittle taste in their lives. Orijen and Innova EVO are good too i also like www.primalpetfoods.com their raw food is amazing your yorkie will have sweet breath and firm poop. It helped my little female girl out a lot she had bad teeth and breath and it is so much better now.:animal-pa

I have all three of my dogs on Ancana dog food and I found that it has made a huge difference in them. Their coats are silky and shiny, their teeth are white and clean, they have lots of energy and my LabXCollie no longer scratches her ears. It has no byproducts and the ingredients are all for human consumption. The best part is that it is made 3hrs away from me! LOL;)
