Hopefully you'll get the results today. Let us know. |
Not sure if this makes a difference, but the type of bloodwork run is a CBC Super T4 (Total Body Function). |
No diabetes The vet just called, and bloodwork indicates no diabetes. I would do anything and pay any cost to care for London in sickness and in health, but to be honest it is quite a relief. I am going to ask a second vet to review the bloodwork just in case. The only little blip in the bloodwork was high nitrogen, which vet said could be a result of having just eaten. We are still waiting for results of Saturday's urine culture. The vet said the lab actually grows (cultures - duh!) the bacteria and tests treatment with various antibiotics, and then recommends which antibiotics are effective against that particular bacteria. How interesting that they pre-test your actual sample against different antibiotics! So we will likely start a course of antibiotics when the urine culture comes back. The vet did say her symptoms (drinking and peeing more) were somewhat consistent with Cushing's, although she does not have the pot belly, and 3 years old is quite young for Cushings. Of course after hanging up the phone, I thought of more questions for the vet  ...What about those struvite crystals from the first urinalysis, couldn't that be an indication of stones?...I will ask that next time he calls in a couple days. Thanks for riding this one out with me. I have learned alot about managing diabetes in the process. |
I am thrilled London doesn't have diabetes! :bravo: Lady gets cultures done all the time to find out what bacteria is causing an infection. (Diabetics are prone to infections) It can take a week or so for the culture results to come back. Cushings would be very unusual in a three year old. |
I agree your vet did the right thing in ordering the complete profile, my Winston had that done today...but I still think the vet could have done a simple glucose reading. It would have been within normal limits, and would have eased your mind sooner. Very happy to hear all is well and there is no indication of diabetes. Hope your little one is doing well and stays that way. |
