The Honest Kitchen! Today the samples came, and I prepared a small portion of the 'Preference' with raw ground beef and SHE ATE IT!!! :D  :D She wasn't totally enthusiastic, but at least she ate it!! :) :) I was so disappointed when she refused to touch the NV Raw, even after I tried adding everything possible to man :p, but I'm excited she'll eat HK! Also, I normally give her about 1 tbsp of cottage cheese every AM with Royal Coat (salmon oil) supplement, so I assume it's okay to mix that in with the HK? |

Yep - you can mix in anything you want. I'm so glad she ate it. Most of them do so gingerly at first, but now that she knows the taste, I bet she'll continue no problem!!!!! |

Is it okay to give any kind of raw meat? Chicken, Fish, etc. Also, is it defeating the purpose if I make a big batch and refrigerate a couple days worth, and freeze the rest? |

I don't think freezing would hurt anything at all, from what I've read. I'm not sure what it might do the texture/consistency but it's worth a try. I know chicken is good to feed, and lamb. I'm not sure about fish, it seems like I've read of others feeding it raw. Maybe someone who does will see this and give their opinion. I think I'm going to open one of my HK sample packs and see how mine like it. :) |
I am using HK preference too and mine, well... eat it... LOL! I don't mix it with raw meat but with canned Evanger's 100% rabbit b/c of Maggie's allergies. Mine wouldn't eat anything that was refrigerated or previously frozen exempt human junk food of course . What they really really like is the rabbit and sweet potatoes treats from free range treats. They fall over themselves when we open the package... :D |

Let me know how your babies like the HK if you decide to try some. :) |
For those that feed the Honest Kitchen as a sole diet...How much to you give per day? The sample packages I have right now don't say anything about feeding instructions. I've been giving 1tbsp HK+ 1tbsp raw ground beef with a bit of cottage cheese 2x daily. She also has kibble that she can eat if she gets hungry. |
Does the HK website offer feeding guidelines? I know a lot of sites, like Nature's Variety, have portion calculators based on age, size, activity, etc. |

Well, we tried those sample packs of HK this weekend. Two of them ate it but didn't go crazy over it, two wouldn't go near it other than to sniff, and Chelsea ate a bite or two then stopped. So, it looks like we'll be staying on NV raw since they all love it!! |

So glad to see this thread I am so glad to see this thread. I have been thinking about feeding Daisy Mae raw, but I am really afraid. I'm so afraid that I will make her sick. I was reminded by a friend who has a Chocolate Lab that dogs are meant to eat raw. I just don't know. I think there is a big difference between a lab and a Yorkie. To me, Daisy is my fragile little thing and I just don't want to give her food poisioning since their tummies are so sensitive. Can you please share your logic/stories/reasons for feeding raw? I am very interested in it. Right now, I feed Daisy Canned food (Chicken Soup soul..) mixed w/ Innova dry kibble and dehydrated chicken, breakfast & dinner. For lunch I give her grilled/plain chicken and some fresh fruit (mostly apples). I try to feed her the best/natural/holistic food that she will eat. I have gone thru so many brands trying to find her favorite. thanks:) ~Kathy:animal-pa |
