Question about Shots?? :confused:The breeder I got Bella from gave me their vaccination schedule. I took her to the vet today for her rabies shot and an ear check (been scratching a little). When the vet seen that they started at 3 wks with Intra Trac lll, 4wks with Progard Puppy DPv, 6 wks Vangurd Plus 5Cv, 7wks 7 day regimen for coccidiosis, 8 wks Giardia Vax, 9wks Vanguard Plus 5Cv, 12 wks Vanguard Plus 5CV and Giardia Vax, 15 wks Vanguard Plus 5Cv, plus they de-wormed every 2 wks since they were 2 wks old. He just couldnt believe they started so young. My question to some of the breeders on here is this a bad thing to start so young or is my vet tripping. Could any problems arise from this? Thanks for any advice. I'm just worried since he said that. Another Question is where do you purchase Frontline? (Pet Supply, Vet, Walmart, etc.) Are they the same??? Sorry for all this but Im worried........... She checked out fine no problems with ears and she's 10 pounds. |
they shouldnt get their first set of shots untill 8 weeks so your vet is correct. If given too early they may not take and alot of times vets wont even count them and make they have to have the shots again. thats what my vet did in that instance |
Your vet is absolutely correct. No breeder who has studied vaccines would start them that early. 8, 12 and 16 weeks is a good schedule but many vets are even starting later than that now. If the vaccines are started too early they are just gong to interfere with maternal antibodies making the them and the vaccine uneffective and the dog unprotected. |
What would you suggest redoing them? Will the rabies vac make them feel bad? She acts like she doesnt feel good now or I might be just paranoid... |
Over vaccination is a big problem but there is nothing you can do now. Just research and give as few as possible. The giardia vaccine is not one that should be given in most cases. I'd let her poor little body rest for awhile. Try to talk your vet until waiting til 6 months to give rabies if possible. You could just do one more set (DHPP) at about 19 weeks and then titer a few weeks later to see her antibody levels. |

yes it is normal for her to act a little lethargic it should only last for one day maybe one and 1/2 days ... no more than 2 days thou. And she might be sore depending on where her shots were given (in the muscle versus just under the skin). |
Thanks yall for answering so quick. My poor little Bella.... She is sleeping right now thank goodness. I can't stand looking into those little eyes when she dont feel good. Bless her heart! I know that shots don't feel to good as I have to have an injection once a week for MS. |
