Is it okay to add stuff to chicken and rice?
 
It seems the food I have been giving Bailey is causing him runny poops, I've been feeding him chicken and potato for a couple of days now and the poops firmed up. I tried back at the food again last night, and his poop started looking bad again. I found a place online that sells Wellness puppy, and ordered some, but it will be over a week before it arrives. So I need to know if there is anything else I can give Bailey besides chicken and potato, how about frozen mixed vegetable, is that okay? Any suggestions? I don't know what else to give him.

You can continue to give him chicken and potato or chicken and rice.
You could add some cooked carrots or green beans or something but if he is doing well, I'd probably leave it until the food comes in.

You could permanently stick with the chicken and potato and add a couple veggies and some oil and vitamins (after talking to a nutritionist) if you like this diet for him.

There is no nutritionist in my area, Living in a remote small town there is nothing like that available. I was concerned about just feeding chicken/patoto exactly for that reason, afraid it would not meet all nutrient needs. What kind of oil and how much should I use? Thanks Ellie.

If you only have another week to wait for the food, then I wouldn't add any oil. You can mix in 1/2-1 tsp. of olive or canola in daily if you wnat though. Just start slow. Ellie's nutritionist is in Boston. We do phone consults and she mails me the recipe. Then I order the supplement and have it shipped. It's a big decision to make but if that is all he does well on, it is an option.

Thanks, I'm hoping he will do okay on Wellness, if not I will have to look at other options as too.

If you are looking to add something nutrient dense but easy on his stomach, try using the grains Amaranth or Quinoa. They are both very nutritious adding Calcium and Phosphorus and numerous other vitamins and minerals that dogs need.
