How Much too feed our Lucy Hi All! We're really watchful of how much to feed Lucy. She is now 4 months old and weighs 6.6 lbs. We feed her Science Diet, and on the feeding guide it states (she's between on the guide), that the average amount to feed would be about 1 cup a day. Since Lucy is a small breed, this seems like alot. I'm pretty sure the package guide is for an average size puppy, not a Yorkie. Lucy currendly eats about 1/2 cup a day (give or take) What is all your opinions on the feeding amount? Thanks Friends!:animal36:animal-pa Lucysdads:cool::p |
I free feed my pups. They always have dry kibble, (Solid Gold and Innova ) available for them. I find this way they only eat when they are hungry. Plus I feed them home-cooked for 2 small meals a day. Personnally, I prefer to let my dogs eat as much as they want when a puppy, we are highly active and their Kcal and nutrient needs at this stage are so high. Hope this helps |
I think it all depends on your puppy. When Sasha was a puppy, I eventually just kept the kibble out for her all the time so she could eat as she pleased. Now I give her 2 meals a day, 1/4 cup each time so 1/2 cup total for the day. She's a little over 1 1/2 years old. As puppies, I think they normally tend to eat more because they're growing, but I could be wrong. Sasha used to get 1/4 cup 3 times a day, morning, afternoon and evening, but eventually, she wasn't interested in eating in the afternoon so I cut that meal out. It all just depends on how your puppy is when eating. |
