Too much protien? I have been feeding Rosie on James Wellbeloved for about a month now and she loves it. But I've noticed after a meal her little body seams to get really hot to the touch, it stays that way for awhile then cools down and she seams very itchy, though not particularly scurfy. She's healthy and happy with no rashes. I discused it with my pet food supplier who suggested she may be reacting to the protien level in the food and said to try her on an adult, feeding extra to compensate. I would really like some advice on this matter. Rosie is very small and 4.5 months old. |
I personally do not think that you should switch to adult dog food at this age. Puppy food is designed specifically for the needs of their fast growing bodies. As for the puppy eating more to compensate for what he is not getting, well, that just does not sound logical. A puppy's stomach is anatomically only so big, and once it gets full, he is not going to know that he has to eat more for nutritional requirements. From what I understand James Wellbeloved Puppy formula is a holistic blend, so she should not be having any kind of "heat" reaction to it. There might be a metabolic issue why this is happening. I would definitely contact my vet and discuss this with them. Best of luck, please keep us posted. |
Thankyou for your input, I was also a little dubious, I'd picked the J.W.B because of its all natural content. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just over reacting to something that isn't really there. It's been very hot here lately and she is teething. She's also is very thin coated but with more coat growing through so maybe thats causing her to be itchy. I'll certainly be keeping a check on her though. Alfie is due for his booster soon so I'll be-able to discuss it with the vet then. |
