Sully has Lyme Disease
 

I'm a little sad today. :( Took my little guy to the vet yesterday cause he's been a little off the past week. He was limping a little, he's ears were droopy, he had no energy, his poop was a little like pudding and not completely hard and he was scooting his butt.

They did a blood test and he's got Lyme. Also, they checked his "anal glands" and they were infected. Watching the vet check those and what came out was soooooo gross!!! I almost threw up. I felt so bad for him. The vet was great and explained the whole "anal gland" story....(WHO KNEW!).

He's on antibiotics...... oh.... and he now weighs a little under 13 pounds.

Lola tested positive for Lyme's in April. She had to do a month of doxycycline. What did they put your little guy on? May I make the suggestion that you add a probiotic and yogurt to his diet to help prevent a yeast infection from the antibiotic. Lola has been off the med for a month now and is much better. However, she isnt close to having the stamina she once had. I hope your baby feel better soon!

He's on Amoxycillin (sp). The vet was going to put him on something stronger, but because he has such a sensitive stomach, he decided that this would be a better route and would also take care of the infection in his back end too. It's really weird to see him not running around acting like his usual puppyness. He's still Sully, just a little slower and plops down after a short time, like he's too pooped to party.

I found out yesterday that limping was indeed a sign of Lymes,
who knew. Buddy was tested for Lymes yesterday since he was
not walking on one leg but his turned out to be a soft tissue injury.
The vet said Lymes is treatable with no problem as long as it is
caught in time. I am sure your baby boy will feel better in a day or
two on meds. Even tho a Lymes shot or booster is given every year
they can still contact the desease but not as bad.

Yes, stamina is still an issue for us. We can't walk as far as we used to as she gets tired and just lays down. She can't get up on my bed by herself any more either
My son was at Boston Children's the end of March. Lola stayed with my sister in Upton. We found ONE tick embedded in her ear. A month later, Lyme's.

Hopefully once the antibiotic gets into his system and the infection clears he'll be more active. Poor baby.

Bummer! Sorry to hear it! Glad he's going to be okay though! He'll be back to normal before you know it!!!

The Lyme is "wicked" this year. Did your son have it too? I was told it's not contagious, but once you have it in your system it doesn't go away, it just goes dormant.

So sorry to hear that Sully has Lymes.
Andromeda was diagnosed 4 months ago.
She was on Doxycycline for a month. Lolapup is absolutely right
in suggesting probiotics such as yogurt. This will help settle his stomach and also help maintain his immune system.
More then ever now you want to make sure that you are feeding him
nutrient dense foods, and also do not give him the meds on an empty stomach, give the meds to him right after he has eaten.
This way the meds will have less trauma on the lining of the stomach.
Lymes disease is known for effecting all the joints adversely, just like RA, or osteoarthritis. So you might want to invest in a stair that would help him get up and down off the couch or bed easier without pain.
It does get better, so hang in there!

So sorry that your Sully has lymes....im sure with his meds and a lot of tlc from mom he will be better in no time!!!:)

Oh...so sorry your not feeling so well Sully. Hope you get better real soon!

Wishing Sully a speedy recovery. Lyme Disease is so prevalent in our part of the country. My son had it a few years ago so severely that we had to take him to a Rheumatologist.(sp?). He got it paintballing in the woods. Thankfully he's fine now.

I know Sully will be back to his old self very soon. :)

Aw, that's too bad. I'm sorry to hear Sully is ill and being bugged my his anal glands. I'm sure after being on the meds for a bit he be feeling better--at least one end of him will be.

......I am giving him the med's after he eats because he has a such sensitive stomach. Not sure about giving him yogurt though. Anytime I've given him any type of cheese it's given him that pudding poop. So the vet told me to stay away from the dairy stuff. He does get a vitamin everyday, he's stop scooting and seems to be a little more peppy, so I think the Amoxycillin is working. The vet didn't want to give him the usual antibiotic for Lyme because of his stomach.

You'll love this....DH took him out to do his business yesterday and he carried him across the lawn to the curb because he didn't want him on the grass. One of our neighbors saw him carrying the dog asked what he was doing and he told him, "I don't want my puppy on the grass"....the guy looked at him like he was nuts...and said "Dude!! It's a dog!"... DH just looked at him and said, "this is like my child and I don't want him to get another tick bite." The neighbor just laughed and rolled his eyes. DH didn't care what the neighbor said. He's worse than me when it comes to Sully. So if you're ever driving around New England and see a tough looking guy with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth a bunch of tattoo's carrying around a Yorkie - that's my man. He's the best.
