Food recommendations Can anyone recommend some food (kibble) that can be bought at a supermarket or Target? My breeder has my puppy on some holistic food, but he doesn't seem to like it. I bought Purina (I know Purina isn't a good brand, but he was running out of food) and he eats all of it within instants. He is about 17 weeks. |
There are many great threads on here regarding food. But as you've realized, it often comes down to what your dog will and will not eat. However, you still want to insure that you are feeding your puppy a better grade dog food. Most grocery stores do not carry this line of food. As for Target, I can't say as I don't have a Target in my town. Although these foods come with a higher price tag, they also will last longer as the daily quota is much less than a lower end dog food. Most grocery store dog foods are full of fillers that often don't sit well in a Yorkie's sensitive little belly. I suggest finding the various threads and going to a local Pet Value or Petco or Pet Smart (they carry a few). Often these stores will have sample bags for sale or will offer samples for your dog to try before purchasing. The puppy stage is a critical time and you want to make sure he's getting the best! Currently my Sophie is eating Merrick Puppy Plate (after recently switching from Royal Canin) Good Luck! |
I don't buy food from grocery stores or supermarkets. I have a Pet Value just around the corner, we just switched to Wellness. Before this they were on Blue Buffalo which I was pleased with aswell but they sold that at Petsmart which is across the city. Both run me 40$ for a medium sized bag which lasts almost a month here for TWO dogs, and one is a medium sized dog! I've told my mom about the foods and she understands but she isn't one for spending more on dog food, she gets a bag of Ceasers for small dogs, which is basically the same amount of money as for a small bag of high quality food. Anyways she's pleased with it, but I know it isn't a good food, her dog does well on it though. |
hi also why dont you try going to petland or pet smart they also have good brands there take care |
local feed stores also have a tendency to carry better brands of foods. Tractor supply stores carry taste of the wild and blue buffalo, both highly rated. Its hard finding a higher quality food that your pet will eat and thrive on, Ive been down this road many times but over all it is better for your pets to feed them something that doesnt have by products or is full of corn. It does seem more expensive but the food last a lot longer, they dont need to consume as much because the food isnt full of fillers. My dogs are on Innova adult small bites. They like it, they are thriving and they look great. Good luck!! |
Welcome!! I agree, try to get your food from a Petco or Pet Smart! |
Natural Balance, duck and potatoes small bites, you can get it at Petco, I have change my girls food several times, but always come back to that one:thumbup::thumbup: |
Unfortunately it just isn't possible to buy a good quality food from the grocery store, or target. I wish it was, it could be so much more conveniant. I don't know if you have any dog bakeries or holistic pet food stores in your area, petco or petsmart will be better choices then the grocery store or target though. If you find a food that your interested in, go the the site and there are links you can search for local retailers.. might be a place you didn't even know was there that will be close and easy for you to get to |
petco most of them have solid gold, wellness and blue buffalo and I think natural balance and petsmart has the bf and Im not sure about the rest, since I dont get my food there, good luck. |
