Natural Balance- Potato & Duck...How much do I feed? Hi, I've been feeding my 1 year old, 4 lb yorkie Natural Balance Potato & Duck kibble (small bites) for the past four months or so. She is doing very well on it. She has gained a little weight and I wonder if I'm maybe feeding her too much. The feeding guidelines on the side of the bag for adult dogs list dogs 10 lbs or less should get 2/3 to 1 cup of food... Anyway, I've been feeding Tiffany about 1/4 a cup in the morning and 1/4 a cup in the evening..Sometimes she doesn't finish it all. I was just wondering how much everyone else feeds of this food. Thanks! |
That sounds like a perfect amount. |
I feed Teddy NB Duck/Pot and hes is 11#. According to the packaging he should eat 1 cup of dry plus up to 1/4 cup wet Natural Balance. He never eats that much. I put out a little over 1/2 cup (mostly dry) mixed for breakfast and the same for dinner. He probably eats about 3/4 a cup all day. Our vet said not to worry unless he lost weight and we could start to see his ribs. Do you feel like she has gained too much? It seems like it should be about the right amount. Teddy seems to eat only what he needs. You said she doesn't always finish it all. Do you think shes over eating? Does she feel fat around her middle when you hold her? Is the vet concerned? As long as shes getting plenty of exercise, has plenty of energy and is eating about the suggested amount I think you are doing a good mommy job. I think its more about how your baby feels than what the bag says but other long time Yorkie parents will probably have better advice. |
Max is 7 lbs (vet says he is over weight but I do not think so because I can feel his ribs) and he eats 1/4 C. AM and 1/4 C in PM. Dry food only now. Vet says he needs to lose and should be eatting about 1/2 C Innova or Natural Balance P & D a day. |
Thanks everyone for your responses. I guess I should check with her vet to make sure. She seems ok to me but she's my first dog and I don't know for sure. I've just heard comments from people lately saying she's chubby(at 4 lbs) so it is starting to make me wonder.....Most of those people probably don't know what they are talking about :) |
