stiff black hairs on face sammy has a golden face with a few stiff black hairs on each side. i trim him myself but have never touched this area in case they are like cat whiskers. what does anyone think. is it safe to trim them or just leave them alone:confused: |

Its safe to trim them. |

Yeah, while it's important never to cut a cat whiskers, but it's ok to trim a dog's whiskers. Cats apparently use their whiskers for balance, as well as determining if they can fit through a spot. When Joey first grew his whiskers, as a puppy, they seemed super bristly, and one time when his face was wet, they were sticking out so I easily trimmed them. The new black hairs don't seem as prickly as the first ones did, so I just leave them alone, but some do come out when I comb his mustache. |

Laya has them around her mouth and in her eyebrows. I cut them because they stick out all crazy looking. |

Those are Whiskers and I have been told never to pull them out. |

There whisker's. I trimmed Buddy's yesterday because I trimmed his face too. I don't like them sticking out farther than his fur. They are very course. LOL |

Seriously tho', I've been told by the Groomer that it is perfectly fine to trim whiskers on a dog. There are many breeds who have their muzzles groomed so, that would make sense that it's okay. :) |

I've noticed on Uni's that they have started to change color! Just like how her face has changed from black to gold. I believe other yorkies will change as well. Look down at the root of the whisker. Uni's are all changing to gold, and they are thinner than when they are black! it's interesting! I've cut off most of the black now. Anyone else's baby does this too or is Uni just weird? |
