I posted something on this a week ago or so. |
I did read the whole article on Snopes and still thought it worthy of posting for seveal reasons. Not only the chlorine being used as a preservative but also the added sugar in the baby carrots. Yorkies are small and over time these two things could possibly cause problems. I don't think many people are aware of these things. I attached Snopes so you could read it yourself and come to your own conclusion. Also many mother's give their children carrots as snacks and the added sugar in the smaller ones, I am pretty sure, mother's are not aware of. Thought it was interesting reading. |
Thats interesting! Thanks for the info. I dont give mine baby carrots because Im worried of them maybe causing a blockage since they dont digest it |

"Chlorine is a very well-known carcinogen, which causes Cancer.." Where did you get this information? This is simply not true from everything I've read on the subject. I think you might be confusing chlorine gas, with chlorine. I do agree with you on the sugar in carrots, but even regular carrots contain lots of sugar, and for those of us with sugar regulating problems they are not a good choice. We use frozen green beans instead of carrots. |

This is how the e-mail was sent to me and I am passing the info on. That's all I know. I do know that carcinogen can cause cancer but if it's in cholorine I haven't a clue. |
Zoey and Toby love these things. I swear it's always something. Thanks for putting this out for us to read. |
Your post/thread is getting more views and replies than mine did but here is what I had recently posted: :icon1: Carrots & Chlorine I just got my July issue of Shop Smart magazine (Consumer report). There is an article which statescarrots and other vegetables are treated with chlorine. It also says Manufacturers often treat produce, even the organic kind with a mild chlorine solution to disinfect it and extend it's shelf life. The concentration is supposed to be tiny compared to products like household cleaners and pose no risk to humans. It goes on to say if you want to avoid chemicals buy produce off the farm stand or try growing your own. Glad I never paid extra for the organics. Am I the only one who didn't know even organics were treated? __________________ Mammadoodle to my Yorkiedoodle:luvu: and our crazy cat Ms. Sassy Pants. :cat: Within the heart of every stray lies the singular desire to be loved :woof: |

Sorry, I never saw your post. So many get lost in the shuffle. Thank's for your article. Looks like you can never be too sure of anything. Personally, I don't trust organic either. Who's to know if they really are? JMO |
I agree sorry for the crappy post I didn't know copy and paste would turn out that way and when I tried to fix it the screen jumped and it was gone! lol |
oh boy... What it is actually healthy now days huh???? My nutritionist recommended me to chew on those carrots.... whenever... as much as i wanted too... of course i do not wanted too never but ... it is supposed to be a suggestion on healthy substitute for my junk food cravings.... Sugar added... chlorine... preservatives.... Who is the person who suggested move to the ranch? I may go with you... kkkkk Farm work is much harder then going to the supermarket though.... Good post anyways ! :):);) |
Personally you just never know. It's like playing russian roulette when you eat something. I don't do the whole organic thing. Sorry I understand that they are not treated with pesticides but it's grown in the same ground that the polluted rain falls right back down into. So it's a bit sketchy for me. The earth has been polluted with our carcinogens and other junk for so long, it's in the air and the precipitation so how much healthier can organic be. Just my own personal opinion. Others might think differently but that is the way I feel. |

Notice that chlorine isn't on the list. Vinyl chloride is on the list, and it's a totally different substance. Similar sounding chemical names should not be confused. |
thankyou for the info you are so write about it :) |
For all of you who are afraid of chlorine, you really need to familiarize yourself with the e-coli bacteria, it can be deadly and it has been found on fresh produce. Chlorine is one of the ways to kill it, chlorine evaporates very fast, and all that's left is a tiny amount of salt, the same kind that's in you salt shaker. Remember salt is made of of sodium chloride Here' a link to information about the e-coli, bacteria, now that something you should be afraid of. Escherichia coli - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
Try Organic Veggies I buy organic carrots and other veggies and fruits. I know in the baby carrot package, there is some sort of watery solution to keep them fresh. Organics are a lot better for your health without the chemicals, tho they are costly in comparison to the other. Just a suggestion. |
