Reaction to Rabie shot I am taking charlie to the Vet tomorrow. However, I would like some feedback. Charlie was fine. Then on sunday, I took him to Petco for his 3rd set of shots and rabie shot. He got all of them together. Well, he hasn't been feeling too well since then. I googled side effects of rabies shot and it said this was normal for 24 hrs. Now it has been longer than 24 hrs. He looks tired and down. He has no energy. He sleeps all the time. He doesn't want to eat. I tried everything to get him to eat. He will drink. He has been peeing 10 times a day. He poo only once a day. What should I be doing with charlie until tomorrow? My husband tells me..Charlie is going to die. I guess they had a puppy before and he showed similar signs that charlie is displaying now. I am scared. Charlie is not going to die. He is going to live until he is old. Have you had similar experience with rabies shot before? |
I would definitely take him to the vet immediately. For now, you can give him some Nutrical if he hasn't eaten so that his sugar level doesn't go down too much. Also in the future, you might want to give him one vaccination at a time and separate them out by 2-3 weeks. For example, if he just had his parvo shot, then I would wait 2-3 weeks before he gets his rabies...then another 2-3 weeks for lepto, etc. I hope your furbaby will be okay. Please keep us posted. |
Definitely get him to a vet ASAP! Good luck! |
This just happened to my puppy...couple of weeks ago. Took her to the vet they gave her something for the reaction. It took her a couple of weeks to feel better, but now she is back to normal. I was very scared thought she was going to die. She is doing good. Do take her to the vet. She didn't want to eat, play or be held just be patient and she was also a little more aggressive. Good Luck!!! |
I hope Charlie pulls through ok! Get him to the vet in a hurry! I heard you should only have one shot at a time given to these little guys. I also keep reading that Yorkies shouldn't have Lepto. I agree with whomever said to give him nutri-cal or honey or some such until the vet sees him. |

Reaction to DA2PP shots My three get their rabies vaccinations once in two/three years. Took them to vet yesterday, Friday, for the annual heartworm test and other vaccs. (Distemper, adenovirus type 2, parainfluenza, parvovirus combo) All three received the DA2PP along with heartworm blood work. My bichon reacted immediately with scratching face, turning reddish and vomiting. The vet gave him Benadryl, steroid and something to calm his stomach. Poor thing. He is still not well today. I have been told by our vet, he MUST NOT have these vaccs ever again. It could kill him. I am trying to make him as comfortable as possible but he is dark pink all over. No other symptoms. Poor thing. |

I believe dogs should get vaccinated as puppies and again at 1 year. And then maybe at age 6-7. Rabies should be given with whatever the law is in your area. Usually it is 3 year. Vaccinations have a lot of side effects, even in the long run. My dog is just getting his year boosters. He got rabies 2 weeks ago, and I'm waiting 3 weeks between EACH vaccine. He is getting rabies, then distemper, then parvo. Each 3 weeks apart. I'm not going to risk his life giving him 5 different diseases at once. |
