Help black teeth!!! Chloe is almost 8 months old and her new teeth are already gettting grey on them, her two back molars have black spots. The vet told me I need to brush her teeth every night.... do any of you do this every night? Also does the petzlife oral care gel work? Will that remove the black? I'm very worried about her teeth, she's so young. |
Before I bought Joey, I read that one of the Yorkshire terrier's weaknesses were the teeth. So, I have done several things to increase the odds of Joey keeping his teeth. First I use kibble, I believe kibble or raw, to be the best choices for a dog's teeth. Second, I use Petzlife, around 3 times a week, a member here, ARCHIE recommended it, and her dog Buddy has perfect teeth, and that's really unusual in a yorkie. Third, I use a hard chewing stick (Merrick Bully Sticks) that I believe helps keep tartar scraped off the teeth, and forth, I brush Joeys teeth twice a week. The vet said his teeth are in wonderful shape, and Joey's breeder thought I brushed his teeth every night. There are no signs of tartar, and his teeth are white, and his breath is good. Joey's almost three, so I believe what we are doing is working. |
Have you thought of feeding raw? The enzymes in the meat keep the teeth clean. I also use Merrick flossies. Lola's teeth are beautiful. |

There is lots of information on raw in the diet forum. Be sure to read the cons, as well as the pro, if you can't find any cons to your food choice, you haven't read enough information. |
I'm going with raw food for Curly Mac. Actually, raw vegetarian which is what the humans here eat too. None of my children have ever had a cavity in 18 yrs and we don't use fluoride either. So...I'm taking the same route with my puppy. So far, so good! Her last baby tooth came out today and all her adult teeth are sparkly white! |
Mine have great teeth and I brush them 1-2 a week, I use a pet toothpaste, but I accredit it to them eating high quality food, I also use Nylabones they have helped their teeth stay strong, and Kongs are the best! The Nyla and Kong they chew all the time and with all the molars in the back! Best of luck! |
Ever since I switched JoJo to raw he has reaped so many benefits, including his teeth. They are soooo white now! Not to mention his coat is shinier, and his poo is firm and tiny...like little tootsie rolls! I feed him a Nature's Variety rotation diet of the raw medallions and Instinct (grain-free) kibble. His favorite flavors are chicken and rabbit. |
I also use Petzlife and CET toothpaste. Petzlife is a gel (or spray) that you put on their teeth and leave on for 1/2 hour. Afterwards I put on Petzlife I brush their teeth with CET toothpaste. I usually do this twice a week and it seems to keep the tartar off their teeth and leave them white. In addition, they get bully chew stick on a daily basis. I purchase my bully stick through one of the YT member (PM if want the contact info). I've tried Merrick bully stick before and they really smell. Whereas the one that I purchase from the YT member hardly smells at all. BTW, I feed my furbabies dry kibble mixed with wet food. Good luck! :) |

We brush everyday...Its a pain but its worth it... |
I brush daily, floss weekly and use OraVet weekly. It seems to be working fairly well and she eats soft food with no problem. |

Here's a link to Merricks Bully Sticks and flossies. Flossies are just a thinner strip, great for puppies or smaller yorkies, but a medium or larger yorkie would do better with the sticks. The reason Bully sticks and flossies are a good choice is that they are 100% digestible, and are said to be safer than other chewing sticks such as Greenies, rawhides, and bones. Chew sticks are great for the teeth and gums. Merrick Pet Foods - Dog Treats Tendons |
