Poop test came back, Bailey doesn't have coccidia!! The poop sample I left with the vet yesterday was tested and I got the results today..My poor baby has worms!!! I don't understand this, he was dewormed before I got him. I have to give him liquid medication by syringe..plus I have to keep giving him the cociddia meds because I have started them aready and need to finish them because she said his system will build up a resistance if I suddenly stop giving it to him! Worms aren't to serious are they? |
Worms are easily treated and sometimes it takes mulitple dewormings. Left untreated they can lead to malnutrition because worms rob the dog of a lot of essential nutrients. Taking an antibiotic when there is no infection is what leads a resistance...not stopping the medication. |
Oh, that's great news on the coccidia :). Worms are much easier, safer to treat. |

Great News, Give Bailey a big hug for us... |
Thank you all so much! I've decided I am not going to continue the cociddia pills, if he deosn't have it, why force him to take pills:rolleyes:..I think the vet just said to take them anyway since I was charged 45 dollars for them. I just gave him the worm treatment, and it must taste yummy, because he licked the syringe. He is such a happy little guy, love him to pieces already:D |
What a relief for you! Worms are easy to treat it may just take awhile. My sister Chi was treated several times but has been fine once they finally did get rid of them. Check all of your bedding (if he sleeps with you) and wash his so that he is not reinfecting himself. Thats how my sisters dog kept getting them once he was given the medicine the worms were in his bed- Good luck! :D |

So glad he is going to be ok , and it was just the worms > thankfully he diggs the liquid meds :D i have a brand new baby , and need to take her in to the vet in a couple of weeks, i am unsure if she has even been dewormed yet? She has already had a first round of vaccines, so i'll look and see. I know with my Suzi , she was dewormed several times as a puppy . It is very common for pups to have these. |
