leaving little droppings around the house My 5 yr old yorkie is leaving little droppings around the house. Mainly around areas where she would have to exert herself to go up stairs of jump on furniture. I had an eldery yorkie do this years ago and the vet told me at the time that it was from pressure of the spine on the rectum. He had me put an oily food supplement on her food everyday, and that helped. But this time it is a younger yorkie and I can't figure out what is going on. Of course I will mention it to the vet when we go, but in the meantime, I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and what they did about it. |
Does she go poopy everyday? Maybe if she got out in the morning for a walk, and did her duty outside, then she wouldn't have any problems in the house? I have not heard of this particular problem before... |
It doesn't happen every day. These are little small little poopies that just are here and there, especially in places where she has had to exert herself - like the stairs. The poopies are not on the stairs, but several feet from them. It is just like what my older yorkie did, but she was 12 not 5. She runs outside with our other two yorkies and doesn't have accidents in the house. ( I don't call the little poopies an accident because I don't think she even knows that she is dropping them ) |
Check the hair on the rear end. Many times they get a "clinger" and it drops off later. She may need her behind trimmed a bit. Hopefully thats what it is. |
it's a little strange that two of your dogs did the same behaviour unless they're from the same litter. i think it's something else. it could just be a way of marking territory. |
I have no idea what could cause this..........very odd, did you check with your vet? |
I will talk with the vet at our next visit. I am not worried, just perplexed. This isn't a marking type thing or even an accident. I just hope it isn't muscular/skelatal in nature, but that would be better than a bowel issue. It has been a few days since I have seen any droppings, so it isn't something that happens all day long or even every day. Thanks everyone for your replies. This is a great site. We have three darling yorkies and it is nice to have a place to ask questions about them when they arise. |
I think it is from straining to jump up on the stairs or whatever. If if happened to your 12 yr old dog, it could happen to your 5 yr old, too. They all age at different times. Especially if they don't even know it's happening. I would just make it easier for them so they don't have to jump, i.e. stairs, ramps, etc. One of my girls has that luxating patella thing, and I am going to get her a ramp to get up on the bed, and one for the couch, too. Good luck. |
I know this sounds nuts but Annabelle my 4 year old Schnauzer does the same thing that your 5 year old Yorkie is doing. She however usually "blows her poopy ball out" while she's sleeping and I honestly think its from gas. (flatulent) I think her belly builds up with gas while she's sleeping and POP a little poopy ball shoots out her butt. She has only ever done this while sleeping (glad she doesn't sleep with me) and it only happens now and then. She has been to the vet and they say nothing is wrong with her. Oh, and there small little poopy balls too, strange deal! :D So I've just come to the conclusion she gets built up gas in her tummy and it builds up till she blows, LOL ;) So far Schatzie my 9 month old Yorkie does not do this. |

That is so funny, but could be what is going on. When I say little droppings, I am referring to the size you are talking about. Thanks for confirming that this can happen and not be an issue. I am thinking that Sophie could stand to lose a pound or two of weight, and perhaps that would help too. Thanks! |
