I need to get Bailey to eat! Please read Since Bailey is only 15.5 ounces I know that he has to get reg feedings but, he won't touch is dry kibble, or soft food unless I mix a little cottage cheese or yogurt in with it. Will this harm him,? I'm so scared for my little guy. His poop wasn't as runny last night, just soft, but today it's watery again, buy thankfully no blood. I'm praying the pills the vet gave clears this up and he doesn't get worse or have something more serious, but I am also concerned with the food issue and making sure he is getting enough, so is mixing yogurt/cottage cheese in with kibble ok?? Thanks for any input. |
That is fine. You can try to get him to eat his food without it later when hes bigger. Both of mine were small when I brought them home and my vet told me you have to watch them untill they are 2 lbs. Once they get to 2 lbs they are alot sturdier |

Cottage cheese and yogurt are okay to give to dogs, unless it causes diarrhea. If you think this is contributing to his diarrhea, then I wouldn't give it. Otherwise, I would give it - so that he gets enough food. Was he eating okay at the breeder's? Another easily digestible option (and will give carbs/energy) is to make him some mashed potatoes and mix those in w/ his food. Simple carbs can be helpful for sick dogs. To make it easy, you buy the canned/sliced white potatoes and micro them, then mash. |

You shouldn't introduce too many foods at once, that's correct. I guess my question was -- did you introduce the cott cheese/yogurt to him when he came to you...if yes, then that could be contributing to his diarrhea as some dogs don't do well on dairy. Whereas potatoes are just simple carbs, easily digested, and not likely to cause diarrhea, but may entice him to eat. |
