Is my Yorkie eating TOO much? Chico is 2 and a half years old. We usually put out a handful of his dog food every morning and we'll give him chicken or beef after we have dinner. He was recently sick so we decided we would only feed him his food and boiled chicken (added at night). We've noticed that he's eating his food more than usual. He'll run over to it in the morning and finish it. THen we'll add another scoop and he'll eat that too. It was cute at first but now we're worried he has some sort of parasite. He is CONSTANTLY eating his food. And when his plate is empty, he'll whine. Is this normal or do we have something to worry about? |
When you say a handful, do you mean 1/4 cup? 1/2 cup? And how much does your pup weigh? How many times/day do you feed him, and how long does he go without feedings? Welcome to YT~!:) |

Chico is about 8.5 pounds. I would say we give him a little over a quarter cup of food in the morning and it just stays out during the day. He used to nibble at it but that's when he would get some of whatever we were eating. We used to give him everything from plain goldfish to pieces of oatmeal cookies and so on. Then he ate something that didn't agree with him and he got really, really sick. That was our wake up call and we now have him on a boiled chicken and rice diet (along with his food.) His food is called science diet. Now we give him about a quarter cup food in the morning....and he eats it by noon. We usually put more food in his plate if he finishes the morning scoop. then after dinner, we cut up a boiled chicken leg and he eats that. Is he eating so much of his dog food because he's not snacking with us anymore? He never used to eat it. |

I can feel his ribs but theres some "chunkyness" there, haha. He doesn't look or act sick I just want to rule out the possibility of a parasite or something. He's healthy and active but he just eats and eats. He's never satisfied. |

My daughter has nicknamed my Zoey "porkie yorkie" She is 7.5-8 lbs,(i say 7.5-8.00, makes me feel better) most likely over weight. I don't think I over feed her, she gets 1/4-1/3 cup in morning and evening. She lets me know that she is ready to eat. I have to tell her, you don't need more food, you already ate!!!! She is always ready to eat. I even give her half low fat food and regular food. Doesn't seem to have helped much to me, but, who knows. |
Where does it all go? My puppy is almost 6 months old and eats like crazy. The thing is she is super tiny and only weighs a pound and yet she eats like crazy. Is this normal?? |
I weigh them about once a month on a postal scale I have at the house. If they're gaining, I feed them less. I've never really had a problem with them losing weight, but I would add food to their diet if they were. |
