What flea control products are working for you? I dropped about $50 on frontline every month for my four animals just to have it fail. We also vacuum and wash bed stuff often. I need some more ideas, or other things to try. I have two dogs and two cats. |
comfortis pill given with food & or frontline spray not spot on frontline |
Fleas can build up a resistance to certain products in your area. The same thing happened to me with Frontline a couple of years ago so I switched to Advantage. So far, so good! |
hopefully this help.. I tried everything as well & probably spend over 200.00  on shampoos, stuff for the carpet, house, beds etc.. I even tried front line and its expensive especially when u have more then one dog :aimeeyork. I actually got this from my breeder that I got my first yorkie from.. she explained to me that she once heard if you put eucolyptus oil in the dogs shampoo it will kill the fleas... well i have been doing that for over 2 months and so far its been grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!!!!!!! yeah they scratch once in a great while... but they are not full of fleas n i have not seen one since... =) ps... just add a lil bit of the oil since its super strong & mix it really good with the dog shampoo of ur choice .. and i bought mine at walmart for around 4.00 dollars!! what a bargain...cant get any better then that!!! |
I use frontline pluse twice a month (1/2 dose each time), because Apple only weighs 4 lbs. a few ounces...It's not systemic, so it's not in their blood stream, it just absorbed by the first few layers of the skin...My friend, w/a yorkie uses comfortis, once a month, and doesn't seemed to be concerned about it being systemic, but I'm neurotic lol...Frontline plus applied twice a month seems to work for Apple, but I suppose if it didn't, I'd probably switch...For now, it's frontline plus.... |
Sentinel.....working very well, 1 pill a month, taken with a meal. No fleas!! Fingers crossed!! |
Advantix for my pup! I really don't like giving it to her, but when I try to put it off, she just ends up getting fleas. There are just so many homes around us with dogs constantly in their backyards that have fleas. :( I only plan on giving it to her during the summer months, but since I live in Texas I guess that will be 11 out of the 12 months. :D |
I liked Advantix, but my vet said she had many complaints with it and has started prescribing Frontline instead. So far, so good, this is the first year I've used Frontline. |
Thanks. :) I might try the advantage (advantix?) this month. (Is this the same thing with different spellings or two different products?) The eucalyptus idea sounds good too, but would just be for my dogs. I can't hold my 13 lb. Persian cat under water for two seconds, lol. Someone told me to wash bedclothes with Borax. Has anyone heard of this before? (To use it to help kill fleas.) |
Intereting I was given Revolution w/my first yorkie and it works great! I only use it when he needs it, so its been awhile since he's had it. But lately he's been scratching and it's not due to fleas, so I'm afraid he may have developed allergies. Any suggestions to possibly help w/that b4 I have to go to the vet? Thanks |

Borax works great, but you shouldn't leave in it your carpet as it is toxic to pets and children. Work it in with a broom, then vacuum it up in 24 hours. How to Use Borax to Kill Fleas | eHow.com |
K9 Advantix has worked great for us. We were on Frontline Plus previously and he had four ticks in four weeks. He's been on K9 Advantix for a month with no issues whatsoever. Plus, K9 Advantix repels mosquitoes as well as ticks and fleas. |
My vet suggested plain old Pert plus shampoo when my Rosie was pregnant and it works great. I have a pomeranian with a thick double coat and it worked awesome for her too. I liked it because it cost 4 dollars for that huge bottle and it will last me for at least a year! I would try it. |
So far I've been using a homemade essential oil mix and we've been fine (a little over a month). Although it sound like you've been really battling it out with the fleas, so this might not be the best option for you. |
