Tatum is Grinding Her Teeth....Need Help! Hey everyone, sorry that I have not posted in a while, it seems like it's been forever :( About 15 minutes or so ago hubby and I heard Tatum making this noise with her mouth and I immediately thought that she was chewing on something that she was supposed to be chewing on because she was outside. So I checked inside her mouth and there was nothing in there. I checked again a few more times and found nothing so while hubby was holding her I looked inside her mouth again and while I was doing this she made the noise again and I noticed that it was her TEETH  She is grinding them :( It is the two back bigger teeth on the left hand side of her mouth. She is using the bigger tooth in the back on the top to grind on the bigger tooth in the back on the bottom. We have never in our lives heard her do this, or any dog for that matter. I read some stuff online that kind of scared me but I wanted to come here and get your opinions on it first. I did a search on the board but most of the threads I found were about Yorkie PUPPIES grinding their teeth in their sleep. However, Tatum is almost 3 and 1/2 and she definitely wasn't asleep while doing this. She keeps doing it over and over again and this just started out of the TOTAL BLUE. I mean literally, she wasn't even doing it an hour ago. It's just soooo weird. I took a video of her doing it and I will start uploading it online in a little while then I will post it here whenever it's finished uploading, but in the meantime I just wanted to see what everyone here thought first. Has anyones babies ever done this? If so, what was the cause? None of her teeth feel loose to me at all. Her teeth aren't even as bad as Stedman's are (as far as them needing to be cleaned goes). I am just so confused by this. I want her to stop doing it because I don't want her to mess up her teeth, but I have no idea how to get her to stop or even why she is doing it really :( Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys :) |
Oh Brooke, I don't know anything about this but just wanted to offer my support as you find out about this. I will do some research too and see if I can find anything. Could it be a side effect of any of her meds? I know you're worried and that you've had so much going on with Tate. Big hugs and good thoughts are coming your way. |
I tried doing a serch and all I could find was maybe a bad tooth, food caught, or baby teeth, none of these seem to be it in your case. sorry I couldnt help, good luck, I hope someone here has the answer becuase I know it would drive me crazy if something weird like that started out of the blue. |

I'm not sure if it could have anything to do with any of her meds, but I am going to check into that. She hasn't really been doing it today much...she's been kind of moving her mouth weird, but not "grinding" like she was last night, praise the Lord. Thanks for your help and thanks for the thoughts AND for the hugs - I so need them! I am going to post the video that I took of her last night in just a sec! Give the babies BIG hugs and kisses for us! |

Link to video Here is the link to the video that I took of her last night grinding her teeth: Tatum Grinding Teeth? 6/13/09 at One True Media - share slideshows, slide shows, MySpace slideshows, MySpace codes, free video sharing, video montages. I am just baffled! |
P.S. - I do apologize if it makes you cringe, lol! |
OMG, Brooke, no wonder this is worrying you. It just makes me feel so bad for Tate. But maybe it sounds worse than it really is for her.....surely hope so. I did search & someone suggested it could be an ear problem that she's trying to make feel better or actually her jaw, surprisingly? Hope that you find out soon. HUGS to Tate! Hope u feel better soon sweetie! |

The only other thing I could find was if the TMJ joint was inflamed. Hugs to all of you, and I'm so sorry you're going through more issues w/ little Tatum...I know how overwhelming it must be. Hang in there and know that we're thinking of you and Tate. |
it looks almost like she has something stuck inbetween her teeth but I know you've already checked. has she been eating any chews lately? any bully sticks? perhaps she irritated her gums and it's making her feel like something is there? I'm not much help but I sure hope you figure it out soon. |
Oh poor baby! :( I hope that you can figure out what is causing this... on a side note, she is STILL precious! |
I have never had any of mine grind their teeth, but the weird movement she is making is the same one Pixie has done since we got her at 13 months when she is stressed. Even picking her up she starts moving her mouth weird and making that smacking sound. I hope you can get an answer today. Sometimes the eye teeth can abscess and cause pain. |

Saw your other thread last night about her also not feeling well...so, hope she checks out okay with the Vet! |
Laci did this too and what I found was a zukes stuck at the back of her mouth it was really stuck there and she was digging and grinding to get it out.... I hope she is okay.. she is such a doll baby:D |
