new yorkie; wellness or merricks? hi i'm new to yorkietalk and i just got a 2lb 6month old baby. I was wondering wether merrick or wellness is better. i know they're both good brands but she's not eating much so i want the best for her. She is on royal canin puppy right now. thank you:) |
Well, I feed Emmett Merrick wet food and Wellness kibble. He seems to like it that way. Both foods are good but every baby is different. Just make sure you are feeding your baby puppy food. |
I used to rotate them. Now I feed NV raw |

I feed Wellness Super Five Mix with deboned Chicken. I had some samples of the Taste of the Wild Bison and Venison. They really liked that too. I'm thinking of either mixing it one day then feed Wellness dry the next and then the Taste of the Wild the next and so on. I feed only dry food. Baron and Sammy get really loose stools from canned food. I do give them Deli Fresh Fresh Pet Chicken,Veggies and rice in a roll as treats. I just bought a raw lamb and Rice mini burgers But haven't tried it yet. It's a frozen Raw Food. I want to try it next week. They've never had a raw diet before. :animal-pa |
hi well i give mines eurkunuba but i might be changing it soon .because i think my fur baby is allegic .but iheard wellness was very good .and way give your fur baby some time to get use to when i brought my chico home the firstday he ate 1 time after that he eats 3 times a day .so good luck :aimeeyork |
Taste of the Wild gave my Pommie horrible eye gunk and loose stools. Now I feed Wellness Simple Food Solutions. The only problem is that it has all the allergens taken out and it tends to cause dry skin. I've had to add fish oil to my other furbabies' food. Thinking about changing to a different type of Wellness for everyone but Snowboy and Cocoa. Hate the smell of fish oil on their breath. It just makes it more complicated at feeding time to have 3 different food types. |
I would go with the Wellness dry...Merrick has had some quality control issues in the past. I fed Merrick Puppy Plate to Snick when he was a pup, but if I had known better, I would have started him on NV raw 1st thing, or Innova Puppy. My all time favorite brand is Innova. Innova puppy has worked wonders for so many members. We feed Snick Innova Evo as part of his rotation raw and kibble diet. Snick & Viv |
I would think that you'll need a small kibble size for such a small baby. I've never used Merrick but have used Wellness (Core). Those kibbles are too big for such a little one. I feed all my dogs Nature's Logic. My smallest baby is 2 1/2 pounds and she eats it just fine. It's about the size of an aspirin, just a little thicker. |
Sugar is on Wellness small bites. Get samples- see which is gobbled up quicker:D |
okay thank all of you guys so much. im feeding her merrick right now because she refuses to eat wellness and i dont know why:/ but shes still eating a tiny bit so im giving her nutrical as well. this is opening up her apetite a bit more so hopefully she will begin to eat more :) |
Baxter is eating Merrick kibble now, and he seems to really like it. And he is full of energy and skin and coat look great. |
Scooter is on Wellness chicken and loves it. It is a great high quality food. |
I use Merrick kibble and wellness canned..just as a topper. |
kayden is on the wellness just for puppy. she's done very well with this. she gets the canned and the kibble. and the wellness biscuits as treats. out pet store gave us samples of the kibble to try...so we would know if she would eat it or not. good luck. |
I would choose Wellness over Merrick. I'd recommend the Wellness CORE which is a grain-free, high protein diet. Hope that helps! :) |
