Toothpaste question
 
Can I use my daughter's tooth paste for Tyler until I can get doggie toothpaste?

No, you can't use human toothpaste on animals. We can spit it out, they can't.

Try using a wet piece of gauze. Just water.

Flouride is poisonous to animals. Just FYI. I'm glad you thought to ask first.

What kind of toothbrush do people use I wonder?
 
I agree with the other posts, we should NEVER use human toothpaste on dogs. I use a chicken liver flavored toothpaste or something like that and my dogs love it! I am NOT very good at brushing their teeth though...I try but they are so squirmy and I end up getting the toothpaste all around their mouth, but they love to lick their lips then! DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY TOOTHBRUSH SUGGESTIONS? I bought these little things that you put on your finger, but they're plastic with really soft bristles at the end, but not like normal toothbrush bristles. I'll be watching this post to see if anyone has any toothBRUSH suggestions as well! I've never owned a dog before, and now I've had my 2 yorkies for about 5 months. They are a lot of work but TOTALLY worth it!!

LOL! You can tell it's been awhile since I had a baby! I don't think we had that. :rolleyes: I would still check to see if it contains flouride.

Toddler and kitten toothbrushes are great! I like the finger toothbrushes the best though. :thumbup:

ok i couldn't find the baby toothpaste so i'll just use water for now.... another question. and please don't think that i'm an idiotic irresponsible dog owner. but, can i use those large toe nail clippers on his nails? LOL... i thought i had some and can't seem to find them and his nails really need some trimming )=

I use regular toenail clippers to clip my puppies' nails. The vet said that is totally fine, and it works well from my experience. Before I got my little ones, I bought a fancy dog nail clipper, and it was much TOO BIG to cut a yorkie's nail. I took them back after I found out that I could just use regular nail clippers!

Ok. I started to cut them. Actually I clipped just the tips because when I did the first I thought I could already see the quick... is that possible or am I just scared? Here's a picture to help!

I would just tip them back just like you are doing, better to tip them back often than to cut the quick because it will just make them hate getting their nails trimmed. Your pup is being really good about it!:)

he really was GREAT about it (= his eyes are only big in that picture because he was intently biting my other hand, LOL!! So you don't think that they're too long? They still seem so long to me

They don't look that long. Just take a little bit off every week or so just like you did. That way he will get used to it and you won't worry about cutting the quick. It is hard with black nails because you cant see the quick from the outside like you can with white nails. You could take of just a wee bit more, but better safe than sorry. Do you have quickstop (styptic powder) just in case?

You did the right thing, no need to rush. Get to the store, get some toothpaste, styptic powder. I have a baby toothbrush made by oral B that is great because it has a small head that is tapered so it fits in the mouth very well. It's the smallest one the had.
