Kennel Cough ive had my puppy for about 8 days now .. and he has developed kennel cough he is on two medications for it.. how long until he gets better? is there anything i can do to speed up the process? i want to see my baby better.. his name is monster linus .. |
Hi there and welcome to YorkieTalk. You're gonna love it here. On which medications are Monster Linus? I like Eco-Cough for Kennel Cough and you simply add a few drops to their drinking water. It is also a homeopathic remedy, so it isn't too harsh on their systems. How long has he been on the meds? It should only take a few days for the cough to clear up. Good luck to your little guy! |
An upper respiratory infection usually clears up in about a week. The medicines the vet put your pup on are 1) an antibiotic to clear the infection and 2) a cough suppressant so that further damage is not done to the mucus membranes which would prolong the coughing symptoms. Until he is back to normal, avoid using a collar and switch to a harness that doesn't push against his trachea--Yorkies should be on harnesses anyways. Restricting activity until he is fully recovered is a good idea too. :) Congrats on your new puppy and welcome to YT! Ps. When your pup goes in for vaccinations make sure they do the actual Bordetella vaccine, not the nasal injection. |
Sometimes the cough can hang around a long time. Using a warm mist vaporizer with vick's helps a great deal or if you don't own one of those...take him into a steam filled bathroom. A teaspoon of honey helps soothe an irritated throat too |
kennel cough he has been on medicine since saturday and then another one since monday |
When I got Cali she had it and gave it to my pom and they had coughs for 3 months. It does go away eventually some times in a week or so or sometimes longer. |
