This is very interesting reading, my morkie Radley is 2 1/2 lbs 20 weeks old and sometimes shakes when we pick him up and often doesn't eat his food. He will only eat fresh meat such as lamb or pigs liver, chicken or lamb mince! He also has Bakers small bite available all the time. I thought he was just fussy he now eats out of our hands but not the bowl! I am going to take him to the vets asap to get checked out after reading your advice thank you all so much! :):animal36 |
Liver shunt Liver shunt or Prosystemic Shunt. Best article I fund was at http://www.yorkierescue/livershunt/research2.html Written by Karen Tobias, University of Tennessee. Even has a Liver shunt diet on her site. What concerns me is that my vet has not mentioned this possiblity, and it seems very common in toy breeds, especially Yorkies according to Dr Tobias. She gives a list of signs of the condition, my Gaby seems to have developed many of these over time. She doesn't exibit all the signs, but enough to make me very worried. Can anyone tell me just how serious this really is, my heart will break if Gabs has this and if I lose her I'll be beside myself! |

I thought my sophie might have the liver shunt. she doesn't have that, but she does have IBD I had to just find a speicalist on my own to take her to. She was throwing up alot. She would be fine for a fews days and than she would strat throwing up again. She will lick alot and curl her back and shake when she was going to be sick. She is much btter now. If your vet is not sure what to do I would ask him to ref you to a interal speicalist in your area. I was at the vet so many times and getting nowhere with her. It is very upsetting when you can find the answers to their problems. Sohpie got so sick with her IBD that she had to stay in the hospital for 2 nights. Luck for Sophie her speicalist office is a 24 er vet office too. So she was with people she knew. She had been there for a ultra sound and the scope at differant times. It just took me so long to find the answer as to her problems. by the time she got really sick they were pretty sure she had the IBD and were treating her for it and waiting on test to confirm. i feel for you. I know there is a test that they can do for liver shunt. i would ask them to test for panceritis too. i |
