What treats do you use? I am limited on what I can get for supplies.I live in a small town and we only have a Wal-Mart about 30 miles away. I will order on line if I need to get the best for my new puppy. I have seen on this thread about what everyone uses for food, but what do you use for a treat? :animal36 Most of the treats seem to be to big for my little girl! |
Mine love baby carrots and cheerios. You can cut the carrots up into bite size pieces for her. If you're willing to order online, I highly recommend Yorkie Yummies. They're made by YT member Chattiesmom, they're very healthy and I've yet to hear of a yorkie who wasn't just crazy about them. They also last quite a while. Another thought is she'll need something to chew on. Don't give her rawhide - this can swell in the tummy and cause blockages. We love bully sticks and get ours from another YT member AMD. Her website is www.westbrookdog.com. Congratulations on your new baby!! |
I use pieces of people food for treats but Walmart carries some good ones. I think they carry Newman's Own and Three Dog Bakery which shouldn't be too bad. |
Small pieces of boiled chicken, cheese, watermellon and cantelope |
Joey loves frozen green beans that I've thawed, and I also make some liver treats. Wal-Mart sells calf liver in the frozen section for only $1.00 for two slices. I boil this for 30 minutes, and let it cool, and cut up in little squares. I put these in an oven set for 185 degrees and bake for a couple hours, and they dehydrate. I keep a months supply in the refrigerator and the rest in the freezer. He really loves these, and you can make so many for just $1.00. There are also other recipes where you can put the liver in a food processor, and add eggs and whole-wheat floor, and make essentially a liver cookie that dogs love. Cheerios are another favorite of mine, especially when they are puppies and you are training them a lot. I also use Merrick Bully Sticks, but not as a treat, more as a bone substitute that helps keep their teeth clean, and fill their chewing need. |

I use bully sticks, chicken jerky/strips, bones, and these little salmon or duck treats by "Vita...somethin' or other"...argh...can't recall the name. |
Thanks so much for all the ideas!! Everyone here at YT is so helpfull :):) |
I give mine Cheerios, yorkie yummies, buddy biscuits, cheese on occassion, and they love the Natural Balance roll.:) |
treats! My Babies all love cheerios, baby carrots and wellness puppy treats! |
Due to allergies with one of my girls, I only feed grain free treats, here is a list of the ones I buy. As far as jerkey type treats, I give mine Wellness Pure Rewards (Wellness Pure Rewards by Old Mother Hubbard), Ziwipeak (ZiwiPeak Good Dog Reward Treats), and Evanger's (Evanger's Jerky Treats) . I also buy Cheese Please, it 100% Wisconsin cheese that's been baked, my babies absolutely love them. Cheese Please 100% Natural Cheese Treats for Dogs For a crunchy treat, I give them Innova EVO baked treats, Innova EVO Baked Dog Treats And I also give them Solid Gold Petzyme, its dehydrated green tripe, this is very hard, so I wouldn't give it to a puppy, but as she gets older, its great. Petzyme Treat (dehydrated green tripe pieces) |
My babies love Yorkie Yummies too, and they also get frozen green beans, frozen carrots, and boiled chicken sometimes. |

Lola like Natural Balance-sweet poato/duck, Zukes-chicken strips, fresh fruits |
Cheerios! |
All of my treats are already listed above, except for the Yogurt drops. I always split the yogurt drops. They are large & round and I don't want anyone choking on them. Already listed items: I also use Yorkie Yummies, *Chicken Jerky Tenders, *Chicken Jerky Bites (softer), Bully sticks, *the really tiny baby carrots, *Cheerios, and *cheese (just a small amount and not often). I put a * beside each item that I know Walmart sells. The Yogurt Drops are available at Petsmart. Yorkie Yummies are from Chattiesmom here on YT. |

Be careful when buying treats made of chicken or any meat at Walmart, as MOST of them sold there are Made in China, and also contain many by-products so be careful. Imported dog chicken treats from China have been linked to many sick dogs. If I were going to buy from Walmart, I would only get the human food treats suggested and maybe the 3 Dog Bakery and Newman's Own Treats as long as you don't mind Wheat . |
My guys' treats are Yorkie Yummies that another member (MyPeanutAbbyGra) sent to us. :) Tammy |
Hannah likes Zuke's treats, carrots, watermelon. |
Yogurt drops chocomilk and original. Bullysticks. Drumsticks by Milkbone. Also Wellness jerkies. and veggies =) |
cant forget about Yorkie Yummies!!!!!!!!!! |
Apple gets five (only 5) blueberries everyday for treats, but I soak them in a little vinegar water for about 20 minutes to make sure there's no pesticides, etc. on them...I do this for myself too, but I eat more than five lol...I also give her Innova small baked bar treats, but I break them in half and she has 1/2 mid afternoon, and 1/2 about 9:30 at night...She's on innova puppy...I also give her frozen green beans (2 or 3), if I'm cooking them for myself...She only has cheese, when I'm giving her her heartworm meds (once a month) 'cause I think there's too much fat in it, and don't want to mess around getting pancreitis...Oh, and 2 or 3 organic spinach leaves, when I'm making my juice, in the morning.... |
Green beans (she goes nuts over), carrots, cheese, lettuce and parsley. |
Cali Girl loves dried fruit, Sunmaid makes a mixture of dried apples, apricots, & prunes. her fav is pieces of cut up apple with a little of peanut butter. She has that once a month, when she gets her heatworm treatment. pwolfkill |
