Stinky Breath...UGH! My Lil monkey has developed some really bad breath. I think I first noticed it about a week or two ago. Poor baby! Anyone know what it might be caused from??? She is about 11 months old. HELPPPPPPP! Also, Any tips on a tooth brushing technique. She will NOT have it! Pretty strong little thing for a pound and a half. I know it needs to be done but she won't let me. |
Is she still teething? If yes, then it's probably from that... I don't brush, I use bully sticks and other types of chews/bones to keep teeth clean. Marcel is 2.5 yrs old and I just had him in and the vet was amazed by his teeth. That said, I do think brushing is great if you can find a way to do it. |

The kong toys are good. They also have dental sticks of various types at Petco, etc.. Have you tried finger toothbrushes? I've also used a washcloth and my finger. The biggest mistake I made when I first started doing it was making it a whole big production along with a bath and a full groom. Or I would get nervous and he would pick up on it. Now, I put the supplies in a drawer beside where I sit to watch TV. When it's a calm evening with just family sitting around and talking or watching TV, I just calmly do it now. No big deal. He doesn't like it much, but he doesn't fight me any more. Our younger yorkie is even easier. It's routine for her now. They run around a little afterwards and wipe their faces on the carpet, but that's to be expected. On another note, I thought I read about a health problem that starts with bad breath. I'll do some research and see if I can find it. Chances are that it's a tooth issue. |
Oh, I just remembered. It wasn't a washcloth, it was gauze. :D |
I bought these gloves that have little brush like things on the thumb and forefinger. That way I can just stick my fingers in Emmetts mouth and brush so he doesn't mind. |
Well, That sounds like a great idea! The finger brushing. She is definitely not teething. She's got some baby teeth that haven't fallen out and I'm not sure they will but I'll have them taken care of when I have her spayed. Just don't think that is causing her bad breath though! |

I noticed that my Bo who is 6 mths. old started having nasty bad breath. I looked in his mouth and noticed 2 loose teeth. Today I found the teeth on the carpet. His ears are down also so I think he has a few more loose ones. Your dog probably has a tooth issue. |
As weird as it seems, bad breath can be caused by retained baby teeth. Food gets trapped between the two teeth (baby and adult) and basically decomposes. Yuck, but you get the picture. Kandi is 11 months and she's getting spayed and baby teeth removed at the end of the month too. And Kandi is still teething. I keep hoping more of the baby teeth will come out on their own. :) |
