I use NV raw medallions in the morning & NV Prairie Lamb & Oatmeal for the afternoon/evening.

My baby who should be coming home this weekend at 10 1/2 weeks old is eating Science Diet Puppy Little Bites. Does no one use Science Diet??? Should I switch her?? I want the best for her. ;)

Well, to be honest, SD isn't one of the better foods (although it's certainly not the worst, either). Some of the foods I've seen highly recommended here on YT are:

Nature's Variety
Innova & Innova Evo
Orijen
Wellness
Taste of the Wild
Natual Balance

Oh, I'm drawing a complete blank right now but there are many other good foods available. A lot of people recommend selecting a food rated four stars or higher on this website (looking under 'Reviews' will give you the ratings) www.dogfoodanalysis.com.

You're welcome! I should also mention that there's a thread at the top of the Health & Diet forum about grading your dog food yourself. It also has listed several popular foods already pre-graded. I think Science Diet got an F?:eek:

Most of the better foods will be found at pet 'boutique' type shops, or local feed/ag supply stores. Although, PetCo is now carrying Wellness and I think Natural Balance.

There are so many good choices. I know a lot of YT'rs feed & recommend Wellness puppy. The whole Wellness line seems to be well respected.

You could also feed an ALS formula (All Life Stages). This is what I do and I believe all of the Nature's Variety line (Prairie & Instinct) is for ALS. I've been very happy with NV. My yorkies range in age from 5 1/2 months to 13+ years and they all eat the same food and are healthy and they really love the food. I started feeding NV raw & Instinct kibble to the youngest when I first brought him home at almost 12 weeks. I believe YT user VivianSnickers feeds her pup NV Medallions and Innova Evo. We both feed the medallions for breakfast and leave the kibble out for free feeding during the day. Both the Instinct and the Evo are grain-free foods, btw. I first switched to this because of food allergies in my oldest.

I'm sure you're going to get a lot of different and good suggestions. The most important thing is finding a food that you feel good about feeding, and that your baby will enjoy (mine LOVE mealtimes lol).

Wow, what a vast amount of choices!!! I was a little overwhelmed but after doing some searching I think that I have decided to go with the Wellness. It seems that it is carried at Petco (which is about an hour away) and several other pet stores that are within 60 miles. Glad THAT decision is over. :) Thanks everyone!!!

I feed raw and have for almost a couple years now - I love it for my boys. I have fed NV and Primal - but am lucky to have a local vendor here who makes raw grinds right in my city, so that's what I'm feeding now.

I read that on that dog food analysis site that some of those 6 rating food is not recommended for puppies! What did you feed tell they were able to eat those. Is Wellness or natural balance the same as well?

All of the 6 star foods are grain free and high protein. The high protein is not recommended for large breed puppies - something to do with their rapid growth rate. Since our little ones don't grow like larger breeds, it doesn't seem to be an issue for them. I initially switched to Nature's Variety Instinct (a 6 star food) because of food allergies in my oldest. I wanted to find something they all liked and that Zander could tolerate. All of mine are doing very well on this food. Chelsea, Murphy and now little Colby Tate all started on it as puppies and they're perfect!!

Wellness Core is also a grain free/high protein food, but the other Wellness varieties are not. Neither is Natural Balance.

I feed mine Life's Abundance by Trilogy and it's delivered on your schedule so you don't have to drive anywhere - it arrives at your door. Created by a vet and is human grade - no by-products. Also, made fresh regularly so is not stored in warehouses for months at a time. Price is comparable to any of the leading good brands.

i know this post is old; but i am trying to see which raw frozen food is best to switch too; NV or primal.
primal is USDA human grade meat and NV doesnt claim on their site that it's human grade. which one would you recommend. and do you think the switch will be okay for my dog, since she has gastritis and very sensitive stomach. i currently feed her the honest kitchen force formula. thanks much

Apple has NV raw for breakfast and dinner...I also serve a little fruit and vegetable on her plate, usually green beans and apple (both organic)...My plan was to feed NV once a day, for breakfast, and instinct or prarie kibble for dinner...Apple had other plans :rolleyes: Thank goodness she only needs two medallions a day!!

i have to check the ratings on that, the site is down right now though.
