Yorkie Teeth
 
Last Thursday I had both of my Yorkies neutered. During the visit the doctor examined their teeth and decided that the younger one needed two teeth removed. Today I noticed that it looks like the older one has ground his two middle bottom teeth down. I know this wasn't their last week since he got his teeth inspected. I don't know how he could have done so much damage to his teeth in 1.5 weeks! Anyone know what could have happened or what to do to prevent this in the future? The only explanation I can come up with is chewing on his metal crate. They are both 10 months old if that helps. :confused:

Yes, I've seen him. I sprayed bittle apple spray on it, but he doesn't stop. I used to used a soft sided crate, but my tenacious boy tore right through it lol. I don't know what to do!

is he chewing on the crate while you are gone?? or at night??? he is chewing for one of 2 reasons a) he is bored - which could easily be remedied by a walk before being crated- a tired dog is a well behaved dog. If you don't have time for a "long" walk- you can buy those little back packs for dogs at petsmart- put something small in the pockets- maybe one of those teeny cans of tomato juice- and take him for a 20 min walk. This will equal a longer walk and wear him out. b) separation anxiety.

I try to exercise them a lot. My mom is with them all day so they are allowed to run and play in the backyard as much as they want. I am thinking it must be separation anxiety. They were groomed at Petsmart a couple of months ago and since then he has become a lot more anxious. They have been groomed there before, while not at that particular location... I am wondering what may have happened???

That could be it. Layla used to be groomed there as well- she would come back an emotinal mess and had major separation issues. I now groom at home- it is so much cheaper.

Is he crated then at night? If so is he in your room with you or another room?

I am so scared to groom them at home, especially since I keep them with a pretty short cut!

They are crated at night since they still have potty issues:) They start off the night in my bed and around three or four I transfer them to their crate right next to my bed. They are rarely left alone during the day. My mom is disabled so they always have a companion, but I guess it's not the same when it's not YOUR human.

so he is chewing at night then on the crate?

they are SO lucky to have someone home with them during the day :) What does your mom say they are like whne you leave?

They spend their nap time in there and also when we are eating they (since they aren't well behaved gentlemen yet). He doesn't chew on his crate at all in the evening (he has a different bedtime one). Maybe he just needs more cuddle time. I woke up twenty minutes early today and just petted him for awhile before he went out for the morning. I noticed he was much more calm then he usually is. Like children I guess they are just different. Because their is no way the bigger one would have held it that long!
