Is it normal for yorkies to cough when they wake up and after they run around alot
 

because this is what my baby has been doing. I told the vet this and he told me it was normal for small breeds but im still kinda worried. Has anyone experienced this????

You don't give very much time for someone to answer a question before replying with rolling eyes that "no one must have this problem...' Frankly, I find it very snarky and rude.

44 minutes is not a long time. Give your thread more time for it be answered.

And to answer your question, no, I've never had this problem.

I have never heard of this being normal for a small breed. I think I would get a second opinion from another vet.

My puppy did have this problem but it was kennel cough and perhaps if you got that puppy from the same breeder it could be what was wrong with the first Munchie, however I find it odd that your vet said it was normal , my vet new immediatly that it was kennel cough and she was given antibiotics.... I really dont think its normal.....

ugh im really pissed at this! I guess i would really need to see another vet. Is there anything i could give him by the time for this

He's so young I wouldn't give him anything unless prescribed by a vet. Take him to a new vet because I can't see how a vet would think that is normal in a puppy.

How did you find this vet, have you ever used him before? Was he also the breeder of the dog? I'm concerned because you got the second dog from the same breeder as the first dog, and you didn't give us clear answers on what was wrong with the first dog. Did the vet say the first Munchie had kennel cough or bronchitis or a little cold? It's really important to understand the exact words he uses. These things are contagious and if the first dog had something, the second may have been exposed to the same thing. Is this the only time your dog coughs? I don't know much about kennel cough, but I doubt if they only cough in the morning. I would not try to treat the dog myself, but I would find a vet I had confidence and explained these things to me, until I understood them. It kind of sounds like your vet is blowing you off.

Collapsed trachea is not normal! You need to dump this vet!!!

Im kind of confused by this also, you said " my vet said its normal for small breed dogs" now you say your vet said its a collaped trechea, does your vet think its normal for a dog to have a collapsed trachea?? I really think you need a new vet expecially since the 1st munchie had what you described as a "little cold" and your vet kept him over night? Strange because a simple anitboitic probally would have worked... then this vet says its normal for a small dog to cough but its collapsed tracha and that thats just normal for small breeds????? VERY ODD vet!!
Perhaps Munchie 1 had kennel cough too if that is the case it is very very contagious and air borne which is likely how Munchie 2 caught it, but it is my no means a reason to return a dog nor keep them over night:eek::eek: But it is also NOT NORMAL and does require antibiotics.. please find another vet and get Munchie an antibiotic , the cough goes away in time with the perscription...

When Cali had Kennel cough she had those symptoms and had to be treated by the vet as it can lead to pneumonia. Collapsed trachea is more common in small breeds but usually effects dogs over 5 years of age. I hope he doesn't have health issues like the first Munchie and have to go back

You would think the vet would have found this when he did the initial puppy check. I know many people told you not to use a collar on you puppy, to use a harness instead, collars can cause collapsed trachea, and that's why people were warning you to not use a collar, even for a little bit. Remember there is a difference between the words "normal" and "common", collapse trachea is common in small breeds, but it isn't normal. At one point in your other thread, you implied the vet was the breeder, is this true?

wantayorkie23 - Please post all the information. This is a very large forum and there are some very knowledgable people that truly do want to help but sometimes posts can appear like someone is trying to mess with the group.

Just post clearly - do alot of reading in the forum as 90% of your answers can probably be answered with some reading and then post for pleasure and those "difficult" questions.

this was the puppy check and yes i have nevered used a colar with him in the week i have had him. And no yje vet is not the breeder. Im not sure where you got this from

Ok this is what happened. I told him about he cough and he told me that most small breeds get collaped trachea and it was common in them. He made it seem as though I had nothing to worrie about. But he didnt even hear the cough. Thats what I don't like about it. Looking at the videos that was posted above it does look more than kennel cough.

Thanks for answering my question, some of the things your vet has suggested make me suspicious, and at some point it was hard to understand if the vet and the breeder were the same person, which would really make me suspicious. So as long as I understand the vet has no vested interest in telling you your dog is ok, when he is not, I'm more likely to trust what he is saying, although his competence is still in question. I think maybe going to another vet is a great idea, and if he too says that the dog has collapsed trachea, ask him how the dog got it, and how to treat it. Tell him about the other dog, and your concerns that this Munchie could have the same thing, and you would like him tested. Don't use anything around Muchie's neck, even for looks only. I asked you how old you are because if you are really young, it helps us know how much life experience you've had, and if you know how to be assertive with professionals. Sometime young people are intimated by professionals, and don't want to ask them enough questions, if they don't understand something, because they are afraid of taking up their time, but this is what you are paying for, and don't leave until your questions have been answered to your satisfaction and you understand.
