There is a test in the "yorkie diet and health" catagory where you can test your food and see how it rates. So I wouldn't say "crappy food" until you know it actually is crappy. I feed Uni dry kibble from Nature's Best Science Diet lamb and rice. So not all science diet is crappy, it rates a 94 out of 100. There are some foods that rate over 100. Anyway, pups that young should be eating about 4 to 5 times a day. They will poop and pee soon after eating, their systems are so small. Eventually go down to 3 times a day, and when they are adults 2 times a day. Since they are so small, as adults yorkies do better with at least 2 meals a day instead of just one. |
How much are you feeding each time? Maybe you need to use a measuring cup each meal so you can monitor the amount. How much does the package say to feed? I've had Roxy on 3 different brands of food since we got her. Each brand she only ate 1/2 cup a day even though pckg said about 3/4 cup. Most days she has a few kibble left over, & I've been free feeding her. She has been one to nibble on her food throughout the day as opposed to eating it down at once. Her weight has consistantly been very good. In the beginning she pooped 3x a day. Gradually worked back to 2x. Does he wolf down his food or eat leisurely? If your pup is wolfing it down, better to make portions smaller. |
I only feed dry, and I free-feed so there is always food available. Our puppy eats frequently but only very small amounts. We haven't had any trouble with her. We feed Nature's Variety Prairie (chicken and brown rice formula) and have had not runny poop problems. |
