eating their poop So I have read you can add pineapple juice to their food to help stop this, can they actually eat pineapples? How much juice do you add? If they can eat pineapples how much can they have I am not sure if Harley is doing it but I suspect he is. |
You can get fresh/canned pineapple, just put a few pieces in the food. it tastes good , but then nasty when its in the stool. It is very common for pups to eat stool! good luck! |
I had this problem and fed Sully 2 teaspoons of crushed pineapple after his breakfast every day for about a month or so. Took about a week for it to get through and start working but eventually it did. Now I give it to him once a week just cause he loves it. I guess the pineapple is supposed to breakdown the food so it doesn't smell like food to them. I say, if a dog is eating poop, does he really care what it tastes like? I mean really! IT'S POOP! Good luck, hope it works. |
I've heard this too. Luckily Roxie doesn't eat her pooh cause she dislikes pineapple. I found this link: How to Get a Shih Tzu to Stop Eating its Feces | DailyPuppy.com Hopefully this is of some help! I know it's a different breed but I'm sure it can be helpful for any breed! |
thanks, I will go out and get some today. I don't know what poop taste like when they eat pineapples but its gotta taste bad either way. Poor Harley no kisses for him for a while! |
I am going to try the pineapple as well because our bullie is eating poop, but she even tries to eat Stormy's poop, its disgusting but she only started to do this once we switched her to the food she's on right now "Blue Buffalo" |
My little guy eats not only his poop but also my other two yorkies poop as well. I've tried the pineapple and something else my vet told me to put in his food but nothing works. The vet said it won't hurt him its just gross. He knows he is not suppose to eat it because if I'm in the room he'll wait until I'm not looking. The key is to pick it up quick!!!!! That's not easy when you have three (soon to be four) dogs.:) |
 Mika has started doing this too but not his own pooh but my Gt Danes. I asked the vet why would he do this and she didn't have any explanation apart from he will grow out of it. I have to make sure that Diesel's pooh is picked up straightaway.:eek: |
I am trying to stay on top of the picking up the poop thing. my DH just left for 2 months for work so juggling everything has been crazy but I am out there at least every other day. It is seriously the most disgusting thing!:( |

My Lulu is eating her own poop. She used to eat it more when she was younger, now she eats it less but still likes playing with it. I got to be very quick to pick it up, before she gets an oportunity when mommy isn't looking. Lulu also LOVES cat poop, blhhaaaa.... :confuse2: I'll try the pineapple thing and see if it helps... |
