Possible Yorkie depression?Need advice please We have a 1 1/2y girl.My husband was previously working only part time and 3rd shift so someone was always home.Now that my husband works full time we are both gone 9 1/2hrs mon-thursday. he still works thurs 11-7 and is home fridays (albeit sleeping).I feel she is showing signs of depression:mopey,she dosen't eat anything until we get home (we work together at a nursing home).The director of rehab brings her male yorkie to work and he stays with her at the gym.when it's too crowded she puts him in a blocked off section. So my thoughts are to also :confused:bring Honey to work (my office mates say that she is welcome) or find another yorkie to keep her company. We are not home enough to train another puppy "from scratch" but we were previously offered an older,neutered male yorkie. Would it make things worse for her or would she be happier with a playmate? I don't know what to do but she's breaking my heart.when we are home she is happy and playful but she now pees herself when we get home in her excitement which she never did before.I'm sorry this post is long but I really need advice from "seasoned" yorkie parents....:confused: |
I personally believe that it's very hard on a dog to be alone for 8+ hours per day. I'll admit it's easy for me to say that because I'm allowed to bring my doggy to work with me. It sounds like either of those solutions would work out great! Who knows, maybe your yorkie will end up being best friends with the other work dog. I guess that seems like a slightly less risky approach since if it becomes a problem taking her to work, you can always get another dog, whereas if you get another dog that she doesn't welcome, you potentially have a bad situation on your hands. I think it is very nice that you are considering her emotional wellbeing. :) |
I would try the take to work option first before getting another one. Who knows, it might just be the perfect option:)good luck:animal-pa |
I agree either bring her to work some days or get an older trained playmate. I feel better when I have to leave mine knowing they have each others company. |
I would definitely suggest taking her to work. These pups have a hard time being alone for extended periods, so I think that would be the best option. Bringing another dog into the picture when you are having difficulty giving the first enough attention is risky. |
You could try taking her to work with you first then if it doesn't work out, you can get a playmate for her. I no longer work so I'm home with mine but even so, now that I have two it is much easier on them having each other for company and security while I am gone. I feel more comfortable too, before I got my second, I was always looking at my watch and worrying about her. Now I'm more relaxed when away from home. |
