Sticky eye gunkeys! Hi, This is not an emergency so I posted it here, if it needs to be moved, sorry! Cash has always had bad eye buggies but his one eye seems to be gooping alittle more than usual. Normally the gunks get hard and I pick them off or brush them out but one side is staying runny and its really sticky and matting the hair down to the point where I have to cut it off, I cut a chunk of hair off by his eye because there was no way of cleaning it and it looked so uncomfortable and the skin underneath looks raw. Does anyones dog have really icky eyes? Besides this he is happy and healthy and not rubbing his face or anything that would make me think his eye is bothering him. |

He always had the hard eye crusties that were easy to pick out but right after starting Wellness food, he began getting the nasty goopy stuff you're describing. It was odd that it started right after he began eating Wellness dog food but I didn't know if that was the cause. I know pollen is bad right now and just like w/ humans, dogs get affected too. But I switched him to Innova three days ago and it's stopped significantly! |
we havent switched food but it might be allergies, I didnt think of that. thanks! |
Brittany!! Great to hear the Innova helped with the eye gunk for Jackson HOORAY!!!!:) I tried switching Snick to Orijen from Evo but he just loves his origin and I don't have the heart to not give it to him, he let the Orijen sit there for days. I should try Instinct and see if it helps. Hmph!! I put him on all raw with kibble to snack on and that helped a little. Poor guy... Cashsmommy...join the eye gunk club!!! So many of us are dealing with it! |

BTW, I've just ordered this- Ark Naturals Eyes So Bright It seems to get good reviews and it is made by the same company that makes the oil supplement that solved Sugar's allergy related skin problems. I'll let y'all know how it works. |

My Biewer, Madigan, had terrible wet, goopy eyes and the vet said because he was so low to the ground he suspected allergies. I switched to Life's Abundance from Innova and in less than a week his eyes dried up substantially. He still gets a little goup, but I just wipe it daily with these Organic Lavender wipes and it keeps it under control. |
Calleigh is two now. She has had this problem since she was a puppy. Even in the winter months in N.H. The vet had me try a cream under her eyelids for a week. It didn't work. She has been on several different foods. She has to be on a low fat diet because of a bout she had with pancreatitis. We'll see the vet in Sept. for her check up. I'll ask again. Someone said to give distilled water for drinking. There are different ones so make sure it's the drinkable kind. I haven' tried it yet. I take a warm damp wash cloth every so often to losen and get the eye "boogers" out that way. She's used to it now and doesn't seem to mind. Good luck. I'll be waiting to hear more ideas. |

Sugar developed terrible allergies out of the blue. His skin would become red and inflamed and he was really itchy. He went on a short round of prednisone and it cleared up but came back. The second time he also had seborrhea which left his skin flaky and stinky. During all of these outbreaks his eyes were runny and sticky. The vet put him on another round of prednisone for a longer period which of course I hated but I was desperate. He also went on a medicated shampoo which cleared the seborrhea up right away. During this time I started him on Ark Naturals Miracle Coat which is a fish/borage oil. When he came off of the prednisone the second time his skin was fine but his eyes are still having the same problems on and off. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the eye wash will do the trick. I've heard people have had great success with distilled water. I tried it for 2 gallons and didn't see any difference but it's worth a shot. |
Distilled water did nothing for Snickers:( Distilled water plus Apple Cider Vineagar did nothing for Snickers:( Complete Raw Diet did help a BIT but Snick likes to snack on his kibble and eats Evo biscuits as well as fruit for snacks. I cannot take away his snacks as he is under weight and I want him to eat. His snacks might be contributing to his eye gunk, I'll never know, but I don't have the heart to only give him 2 meals of raw a day and nothing else to find out. Snick & Viv |

It's definitely the food! The same thing happened to me well, maybe not as much as you but her face smelled. It was the canned food I was using so now she only gets kibble |
