One testicle didn't drop now I have to neuter? I took Scruffs to the vet for his exam (he just turned 1 year) and the vet told us that one of his testicles didn't drop. he said we had to get him neutered as soon as possible because it can become tumorous. How soon do I need to get him neutered and the "undropped" testicle removed? Does it make a difference if I only get the "undropped" testicle removed and keep him with the other (ha.) Thanks |
hmmmm....I would honestly just get him neuter (now) and remove both ;) |
What's the purpose of keeping one testicle? He'll be a healthy happier pet if he's neutered. |
Nuetering I just got my almost year old male neutered and he had an undecented testicle. He has two incisions. They need to remove both so that they don't get cancer of the testicles, so I would get it done ASAP. My little guy was only out of commission for several days and then he was right back to normal. He still has to get the stitches removed next week, but he is healing real well. |
Wylie's testicles did not descend. Be very sure your vet is very experienced in this type of surgery. And I would get both removed, otherwise it pretty much defeats much of the purpose. |
I'm assuming you are asking if you can only have the one testicle removed because you want to breed him? Cryptorchidism (undescended testicles) is a genetic birth defect. Cryptorchid dogs should never be bred as they can pass it on to their offspring. Here is a good article for you: Cryptorchidism: Undescended Testicles in the Dog |
Any chance of of one of the testicles drop AFTER one year old? Hi all! I am very frustrated because we bought a yorkie when he was 3 months old and he still did not have the SECOND testicle descended. We didn't care much about it then, but now he is 8 months old and still has one one testicle only. The second one has been found ALMOST descended, but not fully. The problem is that I now am buying a female and would love to have them mate, but I know I must neuter him if the second one does not drop until he completes one year old. Does anyone know of any case where the second testicle dropped after one year old? Or is this totally impossible? I am just praying for a miracle... |

I had a friend who had a male drop his at 18 months old. Her vet said to wait a while b/c with really small Yorkies it sometimes takes a while and he was right. :) |
Our Spanky was able to tie but not produce at 11 months but later his testicles dropped around 14 months and he has fathered 12 babies so far and just tied with our Biewer for the first time. Give it awhile. |
we acutally decided to have the one testical removed that didn't drop. he said it had acutally descended a little. we decided to remove it because 1) he already had to undergo anethesia (sp) for teeth removal (one broke!) and 2) we would hate to put him in any health gamble with a tumor developing we didn't get him neutered through. he still has that one... can you still breed/mate them with one testicle? oh and his 1st birthday was april 2009; so he was about 1 year and.. 4 months(?) when we had it done |

Yes, it is important to have him neutered. He should not be used to bred puppies. And yes, it is more expensive to have to remove the testicle from the abdomen. Hopefully, the breeder will assist if you bought your boy for breeding. |
