Hills UD My mom's baby Buster had to have surgery on Friday. He has calcium oxalate crystals. I think the procedure was called a cystotomy. The vet said he will have to eat Hill's UD for the rest of his life. Is there anything else he can have besides this? The vet said no. I was just wandering if any of you have had this happen to your Babies and what you fed them if anything else? It's so sad because my mom always has given her 2 babies a bite of almost anything she eats. Any suggestions? |

My Chipper had the same type of bladder stones and was put on Hill's UD. The vet said that was the only thing he should eat. I asked about treats and the vet said to just give him pieces of the kibble for his treat ( as if Chipper would go for that). During Chippers surgery the vet noticed an unusual thickening of the bladder wall and didn't think it was anything to worry about but did a biopsy to make sure it wasn't anything serious. The biopsy camed back as cancerous and there really nothing surgically that could be done. Since Chipper was 13 and the vet said he probably only had 6 weeks left to just go ahead and feed him whatever he enjoyed. Good thing because the week he was on the Hill's UD he didn't like it and didn't really eat much. |
Hello, My dog Simon has been on UD for about 3 years; Simon loves treats so it was very hard for us to adjust to him only having dog food. Unfortunately, Simon has had to have bladder surgery 3 times so I have become very strict with his diet I used to cheat and give him cheerio's, but I had to stop. So what I do now is make treats or as we call them "cookies" out of his dry food - it is so simple but smells very bad, but I make a fresh batch once a week or so and it works out great and he loves them. I take 3 cups of dry food; put it in a blender (grind) put in a bowl add 1.5 cups of water dash of cinnamon mix together I usually buy the disposable tin bake ware 8x8 pan bake at 425 for 45 minutes I cut them like small brownies He goes crazy over them (it smells awful) but I suck it up for my baby- Unfortunately Simon's stones are not caused just because of poor diet he also has Cushing's Disease and they believe that is why he has reoccuring stones so we treat the Cushing's and stay on a strict diet and hope for the best! Good luck Angela |
