bad breath and won't chew bones! Charley is still quite skiddish and scared and she won't chew a bone or breath stick. We adopted her about 1 month ago. She is almost 2 years old. I have tried to brush her teeth but she just won't let me. The Vet said she will need her teeth cleaned when she is spayed. I don't know what else to do to help her clean her teeth and loose the bad breath! Any idea's??? Thanks Michelle (mommy to Charley) |
Maybe try a bully stick, seems like dogs can't resist them. :) |
They have different things you can put in their water but I've never used those before. They also have doggy mints. |
Hi and welcome to the group.. What is happening is, she has bad dental disease and nothing can fix it or mask it except pulling some of the rotton teeth and ofcourse cleaning them. If it was me I wouldn't stress her out anymore trying to brush them. They are probably very tender and painful like a tooth ache. when the placque is so bad it can actually cause major medical problems like heart problems etc. serious stuff.. the plaque chips off the teeth and the infection gets in to the bloodstream and heart. If for some reason she can't be spayed pretty soon, I would ask the vet about the CET <I think> it's called. it's blue liquid that u put in the drinking wated and it will help with the breath, it's by RX. The best thing for the baby would be to have her spayed and dental done asap so she can be a happy painfree furbutt that you will enjoy getting kisses from.... Good Luck and God Bless.....>>>> |
i brought ruby her first tooth brush 2 day & she is 3 years old because i have a chihuahua & u have 2 b careful with there teeth dont no why but the vet said try making it a game & they loved it .May b u should try it again & make it fun x |
Try Paul Mitchell Pet Products-Tooth and Gum Wipes! You can order them online! My hair stylist sales them! They are much easier to use than a brush and my yorkie does'nt fight it at all! I usually do it when he is relaxed or asleep and he normally does'nt even wake up or notice! However, you still need to let your vet clean them every 6-12 mos!!! Bacteria/Infection builds up in their gums and can spread to their organs-ex. kidneys! Good Luck! I hope this helps! |

I forgot to add- Have you tried Dingo bones? The brand is Dingo! They are the only bones my dogs like!!! They also have a Dental Hygiene version! My dogs like them as well!!! |
Definately get the dental asap. Sounds like Periodontal disease. Very, very common, but left unchecked can be dangerous. In our case Francie had "Yorkie breath" and no visible signs aside from an incisor that constantly got things, cloth from toys, food caught in it. Really her teeth were white. Not until they go in can they tell. Be prepared because even if they are a bit loose the vet will pull them. The good news is your baby will be happier and healthier the sooner you do it. Also, anestesia gets harder for the little guys to take as they get older, so having extractions now will prevent potential problems in the future. Our Vet was a bit negligent in her diagnosis so we we really shocked. We're back on Bully's and they love them, a bit too much! Rawhide is good too. I sometime put a little low sodium chicken broth on them too! Good luck it will work out! |
