Ella doesnt like treats... A few questions Ella is doing well with potty training- very well. She goes outside everytime I take her and has only had a couple of accidents... which were my fault anyway. We are potty training without treats- just lots of praise and it seems to work! She comes when called, but only if she feels like it. How can I get her to come everytime I call? I know that I have read that I should give her a treat everytime she comes to me when I call her, BUT.....This is difficult because she doesnt like treats! I have tried Cherrios, some from a petstore, and I finally broke down and bought Yorkie Yummies from here on YT and she likes the Yummies occasionally but not enough to help me train her. I guess I could cook her something if thats the only way.... Also, she is 10 weeks old, when can I begin to successfully teach her to sit and lay etc. Is she too young or can I start now. |
Try Authority Liver Treats. You can get them at Petsmart and I've never had a dog turn them down. They're great because they are soft and you can break off small portions according to the size of your pup. Good luck on the training!!! |
Oh must be nice Ellie is doing well with potty time!! lol Having alot of trouble training Khloe, she has no clue what to do when I take her outside, the lady who had her had her on potty pads inside the house and that is all she knows, it's pretty frustrating to say the least, wish she would have introduced her to outside at least somewhat before we brought her home, would have made it alot easier for me, GRRRR !! lol. Any suggestions from anyone please let me know.. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/ima...c/progress.gif |
I would boil some chicken breasts and cut them into tiny pieces and use those as treats. Mine also love tiny pieces of fruit as a treat |

milu didn't use to like treats when she was attending puppy class. it was a little hard to train her when she didn't care about treats. one day the trainer got milu to follow her everywhere, so i asked the trainer what she brought, and the trainer said, just boiled chicken. :D |
Ok I am going to show my age... lol how do you boil chicken? Put in in the oven or on top of the stove? |
You boil chicken in a big pot of water on the stove. Bring it to a boil and then simmer it until done. A whole chicken can take a few hours, one breast maybe 20 minutes. Spike is very picky about treats too. The only 2 he never turns down are Yorkie Yummies and dehydrated sweet potato fries. You'll eventually stumble upon something he loves.:) ETA: Since the chicken is for a dog, skinless is best. |
Our Yorkie is very picky about treats too since they are new to her. We potty trained her with Chicken Grillers from Petco. She also likes Bil.Jac Little.Jacs for meaty soft treats also at Petco and Petsmart. |
I have a couple of things to suggest... peanut butter chips (unsweetened, organic if you can find it) yogurt drops cheese! :D (Just don't overdo this one) |
I use both dehydrated sweet potatoes or banana chips. She LOVES them! |

Riot was about 16-17 weeks old when he finally started liking and got the concept of treats! He now goes nuts for Bil-Jacs Little Jacs and, of course, Yorkie Yummies. Hopefully she'll come around in a bit! As far as coming everytime she's called, it takes patience, Riot's still not all the way there. I'd start with other tricks now, if she seems to understand, just be sure too work on them consistently and she should remember =) |
