Colitis... again
 
I got home with the w/d the vet recommended (over the phone) after the mucus in her stool last night and before I could give it to her, Penny went outside with diarrhea and blood in the stool. So to the vet she went.

It's her second episode of colitis, first was in June. She's on antibiotic again and canned w/d for a few days. We are also going to switch her over to w/d dry food. Dr. says sometimes this helps dogs have less frequent episodes of colitis. I hope this helps. I hate seeing her sick.

He said stress is a very common cause of colitis, but there's a chance it could be related to her allergies. He said it's not uncommon for dogs with allergy problems to suffer from colitis.

I'm new to YT but wanted to reply to your post. My first yorkie, Katie, was diagnosed with the same thing when she was about a year old. Her vet put her on Flagyl for a few days and each time we took her off of it, it kept returning so he kept her on it for about a year. I finally found a wet food her system could handle (Pedigree in the small square container) and she was able to come off the meds. It broke my heart each time it "flared up" on her but was relieved when it disappeared. She remained "colitis free" until her sudden passing at the age of 9. The two I have now have shown no signs of it so I'm thankful for that. Hang in there, your baby will be better soon:)

I have not had any experience with colitis so i have no advice. I just wanted to let you know I and hope Penny she gets better soon. It is so hard on us when they are ill.

Poor little girl I hope she gets to feeling better soon.

Sorry to hear that your little one is having trouble. Our last Yorkie Artie had a sensitive tummy and adventually was diagnosed with IBS and lymphangectasia. Please make sure that your vet has checked your babies blood work to make sure that hes getting enough protein and that hes not allergic to his food.
