Bordatella Can someone give me more information on this? Here's the situation, Tila's normal groomer, which I have taken her to before about 4 times. Well, I called today because my girl needs a groom. But they asked me if she had her Bordatella shot and if she didn't I would need to get it before I can take her in again. I called the other groomer I had taken her to her last groom, and asked if they require it and they said no they don't. I didn't want to take her back there though, because they didn't trim her feet, they cut her too short and they didn't trim her ears. It was a new young groomer who I don't believe has any training in grooming. So I'm not sure what to do here. |
Most groomers do require it. I get around it by grooming Ellie myself. Otherwise it is just one of those things. If you don't like any of them that don't require it, you'll really have no choice sadly. |
Thank you. I was just thinking and had another thought is it better to go to a groomer that requires the shot than one who doesn't? I mean if your dog is going to be around others in a environment where dogs are in and out it probably is best to get it right? I think I will start grooming Tila myself, I just have to get a new set of grooming tools. |
We just went through this with our two. We chose the Bordatella drops and the good groomer. It scared me for awhile because they started sniffing, sneezing and snorting. It scared me to death!! :eek: I was worried that they had contracted kennel cough from the drops (which is a possibility). But...they were fine! :D It turns out that the drops irritated their sinuses and caused them to swell some. He gave them some antihistamines to help and they are fine now. So, would I do it again? Probably. We tried grooming them ourselves, and let's just say that I'll keep my day job! :rolleyes: The last groomer resulted in Gizmo getting a staph infection. He was also traumatized for some reason. They both love the new groomer. That is more important to me in the long run. The sad thing, we have to go through this again in six months! :eek: Now, I have to decide on the shot or the drops again. Oh boy... |
Thank you! :) I'm not the greatest groomer either. I think I will chose the good groomer and be safe. I really do like them they do an excellent job. They love Tila and since I'm so fussy they listen to what I ask for and they don't look at me like I'm insane. |
as the others said, it is normal for a groomer to require it :( miss buffey and bree are the only two of my kids who get it because they get groomed. they get the drops and thank goodness, never had any reaction at all to them :) |
It is understandable that the groomer would want all dogs to have it but, in my opinion, giving a non-core vaccine every 6 months is not in the best interest of most dogs. I'm not saying it should never be given but it is probably over used. I suppose if you like your dogs to look great and can't do it, then there is no way around it. I just scissor cut Ellie about once every two months. Far from perfect but we avoid the groomer hassle. If the vet required it for hospitalization, I have no idea what we'd do but because of Ellie's liver, we get out of that one. |
I have yet to go to any groomer here who requires it. It's largely ineffective any way... None of mine have ever received it and beyond grooming...they attend dog shows. |
