Medical ID tags for health issues/disease? Both my dogs are tagged and chipped, however, w/ Wylie's recent change in health (Hypothyroid, Cushings) - it got me thinking about "what if". I know there is debate and a fine line about putting not enough or too much info on a pet tag. But what if, god forbid, somehow Wylie was lost from us - and never to be returned? Or what if he was found and needed his meds until they found us? I'm considering having the back of his ID tag engraved w/ his medical diseases, just in case (and vet's phone #?). What are others' thoughts who have babies w/ disease states? |
i think its a good idea. I want to get a tag for morgan that says "needs medication" or something like that. I think people are less likely to want to keep the dog instead of giving it back if they see it needs meds. |
I did put "needs medication" on Marcel's tag....even though he doesn't :p...although, he does need Atopica now, so I guess it is true. :D I use Boomerang Tags - and I love them; they're fast and the engraving is good. Plus, they will engrave both sides for you. |
omg!!! i had no idea all the things that i wasn't doing for milu before i discovered wylie's mom! i need to have a to-do list booklet dedicated to milu! add to list - order "needs medication" tag for milu ... |

Omg, can you imagine being my HUSBAND!? That poor man. Saint him now. Someone give me a pill, please, for this neuroses. :D Next thing ya know, I'll be counting their individual fur strands each day, just to discern any loss. |
Oh I can make you neurotic...let's see...your 3 page detailed instructions and the pet sitter whose never gonna read them. |
I think adding "needs medications" on the back of a tag is a great idea!!!! I'll have to get new tags for Sissy - even though she doesn't take meds, just special supplements and a very regulated diet!!! I can certainly appreciate what Ann has gone through. I've spent enough on Sissy with her issues in the past two years to build a wing on my vet's office. I'm fortunate she is doing well, but her food and supplements still cost a small fortune regularly!!!! |

Or, let me move in with them, to save time. |
I think "needs meds" is a good idea. If they don't know what kind of meds, they are going to be less likely to keep them because they won't know how to treat them and have to go through all of that testing again. Does that make sense? Or if you start listing everything that is wrong with them, I guess that would deter somebody from keeping them too. If somebody took Ellie and found out about everything, I'm pretty sure they'd be like, "Just take her back." Does Wylie have cushings????????? I didn't read the end of the other thread. Is he okay? PM me if you don't wanna redirect this thread topic. lol |

On the tags...I *might* put Wylie's 2 diseases on the back, just in case he needs specific meds and they can't find us for some reason (and who could ever diagnose his cushings, not knowing him, ya know)....argh...I dunno. |

So it is adrenal then? Well, the treatment doesn't sound too bad. It kind of sounds like what we know as regular cushings is quite a bit different than this, so the prognosis is probably different also... |

'needs medication' http://wylieinfo.googlepages.com (you can make a page for him?) then you can write everything you ever wanted to write on there. and you can tell them if they don't return wylie to you, you will be very sad because you will have to kill them. |
