New vet tomorrow/What to ask re: Titers Buddy has a 9:00am appt in the morning with the new vet. How do I start asking questions regarding Titer testing? Any suggestions on how to get started and how did you if you got your baby tested first before new innoculations? HELP:confused: |
I don't remember exactly how I brought it up but when I said I didn't want to do all of them, she brought up titers, so I didn't have to. I guess if I was going to a new vet, when the vaccine topic came up I'd just say something like, "I don't want him to have every vaccine every year and would rather do titers." Remember, the vet works for you and he is your dog. If they want to give you a hard time, there are other vets out there... |

My old vet does not do the testing only innoculations, hence, new vet for Buddy. This vet does do titers testing, however, I don't want to look too much like a novice and wanted to ask the right questions. I would assume the core vacinnes are the ones to test on. Is that correct? |

I think they can do hepatitis but it is a bit more specialized. I haven't seen it done. Rabies of course it s a waste of time. Titers aren't normally done (and may not even be possilbe) on the non-core vaccines that only last a short time (parainfluenza, lepto, corona, lymes, bordatella). Most dogs shouldn't be getting most of these anyway. |
Thank you so much. I guess I have it down pat now. At least this vet will hear you out, my other vet dosen't want to. Strange because he's young too. Also a good vet. I felt bad leaving but you gotta do what you gotta do. |
Since your questions have been answered (not that I would have been any help), just wanted to wish you good luck tomorrow!:) |
