what supplements to give when home cooking? Hi everyone, Since Truffles' little pancreatitis episode, I am still boiling chicken for them. They tend to pick out the rice and veggies and just eat the chicken or fish! My concern is the missing nutrients at this point. What do I need to add to their diet? What are the necessities? I remember using The Missing Link before, but not sure if that covers everything? Anyone know where I can get this info? |
You are right- it is ESSENTIAL that your dog is supplemented. Layla's nutritionist suggested Layla used the following: Animal Essentials: Animal Essentials - Multi vitamin herbal supplement - Calcium from the Sea it is essential that if you are going to continue home cooking due to her pancrease (Layla has the same issue) that you contact a nutrionist to ensure she is getting the proper Kcals a day. Susan Davis (askariel.com) Has been used by MANY YT members- some for pancreatitis ! She is so wonderful! |
also - Layla hates veggies and the starch- i have to pulverize them in a food processor and mix them well. You can also try putting fat free cottage cheese on her food- Layla will eat anything with cottage cheese on it :p |
They will also need a calcium supplement and multi vitamin. I would cook the veg. till very tender and mash it all together. Nolee never did pick out certain things. Maybe try that! |
You need to either consult a nutritionist or follow a recipe prepared by a nutritionist if you plan to continue homecooking long term. Dogs have specific nutritional requirements so you can't just make up a recipe. The calcium to phosphorus ratio especially has to be accurate or your dogs can have skeletal, cardiac and/or neurological problems. Dogs have a much higher calcium requirement than we do. I know many people who use Balance IT: https://secure.balanceit.com/_clients2/ Personally, since Truffles has had pancreatitis, I would consult Susan Davis as Marcerella02 suggested: Holistic Veterinarian Pet Nutritionist Holistic Pet Care |
