Natural Flea and Tick prevention Hi~ Do any of you use natural products for flea and tick control? I just bought my 2 babies Sentry Natural Defense spray, but the smell is so strong I couldn't even bring the bottle in my house. I really don't want to use Advantix or any of those other chemical treatments. Help. We live in Maryland so there are definitely ticks hear. |
Hey, I'm in MD too and Jackson is on Frontline but he's already had three ticks. I considered the Sentry Natural Defense today when I walked into Petco but read about the smell of it and opted not to! I'm sorry I don't have any natural suggestions for you, as I just ordered a 4 month supply of K9 Advantix and am hoping it works better! |

Frontline is designed to kill ticks AFTER they have attached, but before they inject harmful toxins. Finding ticks does not mean Frontline is not working. That being said, I'm equally interested in a natural spray to reduce the number of ticks on my furbaby, in addition to using Frontline. :) I am going to try the Yorkie Talk favorite MinkSheen shampoo which smells like Cedar and something else that ticks hate. |
I use K 9 Advantage and Laci has had 2 ticks so far.. urgghhh |

This was posted quite a while ago...I also posted it not that long ago....Hope the OP doesn't mind that I post again. Flea be Gone! * Peppermint Oil * Cinnamon Leaf (not Cinnamon Bark) Oil * Lemon Grass Oil * Clove Oil * Thyme Oil * A carrier oil, such as sweet almond or jojoba In a small jar fitter with an eye dropper lid, add 15mLs (1/2 oz) of a carrier oil, one drop each of Thyme, Cinnamon Leaf and Clove, and four drops each of Peppermint and Lemon Grass. Shake well before applying drops to your dog's neck and back, parting your dog's hair so that the solution is applied to the skin. Use five drops per ten lbs of body weight. Do not apply to puppies under 12 weeks of age. Apply as frequently as every two weeks. Alternately, six drops of Geranium, four drops of Peppermint, and two drops of Lavender in 15 mLs of a carrier oil can also be used to effectively repel fleas and ticks. |
Max uses K9 Advantix and it works great for him (knock on wood). So far this year I only saw one tick on him (on his ear) and it was dead. We live in MD as well. Last spring the ticks seemed really bad. He was on Frontline and it was like he had nothing on. Switched to K9 Advantix and it was a huge difference. |
There is a recipe for garlic (natural flea and thick repellent) in diet or used as a coat spray..but I don t know how it works,although many people say that is working... |
I was looking for a flea and tick product this morning and frontline has a spray that you can use on our smaller furbabies...Is there a product for puppies that are only 1-2 pounds other than this spray? |
