hard boiled eggs my dog ate an entire hard boiled egg and got extremely sick the following morning. vomiting, no energy, not acting the same, could barely moved and when did walk, he walked funny, in a lot of pain. i didn't know boiled eggs were dangerous, i thought i was giving him a healthy treat. has anyone had any problems with eggs? |
I have only gave mine a few small bites of the white part. have you took him in to the vet? they can give you some meds for his tummy. |
hard boiled egg Yes, I took him to the vet and they gave him a medicine called centrine. that was this morning and he is already starting to act like his old self again. it looked like he was dying this morning. |
Glad that your dog is doing better, did the vet told you what was wrong with him? I have give in the past hard boiled eggs to my girls but very little never had a problem, now I'm curious:rolleyes: |
Hi. Sorry to hear about this news but so glad your pup is feeling better. HB eggs are actually recommended as an alternative protein source for dogs with liver disease. Out of curiosity, how old is your pup and how much does your pup weigh? Any diet changes should be made gradually, over 1-2 weeks. I view this as ANYthing they eat, whether it's food or treats. Some dogs do have allergies to certain foods, with reactions as small as not sittng well with them (upset tummy) to full blown anaphylactic shock (throat swells to the point the can't breathe). Key Point: Always feed new foods in moderation... |
It just sounds like too much too fast. The yolk is fattening also, so there could be risk of pancreatitis. |
That's odd. Lady has liver disease and I homecook for her. Her recipe calls for one hard boiled egg so they aren't dangerous for dogs. Of course, it is spread out over four days. |
Nutritionally speaking, egg proteins are more easily digested when treated with heat, albeit cooking, versus raw. I am with Ellie May, sounds like a case of too much too fast. Hope he is feeling better soon. |
To: Kjc my dog is actually a chorkie (yorkie/chihuahua). He just turned 1 years old this month and his weight was 6.2 pounds last time weight about 1 month ago. I think I must have just gave too much egg, because I had previously given him boiled egg with no problems but it was the regular eggs not the EB omega eggs, dont know if that had anything to do with it? also, i forget that he is such a small dog and needs a small portion of the treats. i know i've read that eggs are supposed to be good for them, but probably talking about a large dog eating a whole egg. he was begging me while i was trying to eat, so i gave him the egg and he kept wanting more of it, so i thought to fill him up on that. |
