spaying my baby, pls I need an advice I just read about bella (I'm so so sorry about it) and even before this I was thinking about jasmin and spay her, but i'm really, extremely afraid that something could go wrong, I know you all understand how I love this dog, to me is my child so to be honest i dont want to spay her, but I have also a male in the same situation, but I don't want them to mate, I got my first dog (the male) and then my boyfriend got the female as a gift and of course I could not said no, but now Im in this situation coz I don't want to risk any of them, anybody have an advice?????? thanks |
I am sitting here thinking the same exact thing. As soon as my boyfriend walked through the door, it's the first thing we talked about! Kaia is only 1.8 lbs at 16 weeks and the vet wants us to spay her before 6 months. On top of that, it's around $950 (unless we go to the SPCA - which will release her only a few hours after the surgery.) I really don't know what to do either! |
I'd get her spayed. It's a very very low risk of anything wrong happening especially if you do your research, make sure they're using correct anesthetic protocol, etc. I think the pros definitely out-weigh the cons especially if you now have a male. It's the responsible thing to do as a pet owner, in my opinion, as there is SO many dogs and puppies in this world and why should you add to the population? Do you want to separate the two of your dogs FOREVER while your female is in heat - which I believe that lasts something like 21 days? I would get your male neutered as well. 99% of the time they make for a better pet if they've been neutered. They don't mark all over your house, they're not worried about running out the door to find a female in heat, they're usually calmer, and it 100% reduces the risk of testicular cancer. Tons and tons of dogs get spayed and neutered every day and are absolutely fine. As I said, I believe the pros outweigh the cons! I'm a firm believer in spaying/neutering your dogs. Was I a nervous wreck when Jackson went in to get neutered? Absolutely! But.. I knew it was the right thing to do. In the end, it's your choice! |

It is very, very scary but it is in her best interest to spay her. If you spay before her first heat, the chances of her getting mammary cancer later are almost 0%. You won't be risking pyometra either. It is a hard decision but just find a vet that you trust and that follows good anesthetic protocol. Do pre-surgical testing and make sure to follow post-op instructions. |
By spaying her before her first heat, you will eliminate her risk of ever getting mammary cancer. An unspayed female or one who has been spayed after her second heat has a 25% chance of getting mammary cancer when she gets older. The odds of complications from her spay are much, much less. Just make sure you get pre op bloodwork to alert your vet to any conditions that might make her unable to handle anesthesia safely. |
All my puppies are spayed or neutered before leaving my home . No ones died during or after the surgery . |

I didnt like that she couldnt eat for 24 hrs prior to the surgery, but I just watched her closely and I gave her a little food when I brought her home and she was fine. She wanted water more than anything. She was a little funky the day we brought her home...she wasnt feeling well though. She had just had major surgery. The next day she was still slow getting around, but I could see she was feeling much better. Today....she is just like she was before going in. I think the health benefits out way anything else. Its normal to worry, but I think they both would do just fine.;) I was a nervous wreck, as I think we all were that have taken our babies to get "fixed", but I think its worth it. You dont want unwanted puppies...:thumbdown |
