Found a tick, help I found a tick on my bed last nite when I noticed that Duke just stopped and stood still staring at a little piece of dirt (so I thought). My bf and I looked into it and conclude that it's an american dog tick. Duke has been on frontline plus this year and isn't due for another dose until next week, so I'm hoping that he wasn't biten by the tick. My questions are: Duke walked on grass over the weekend and was wiped down after his walk. He was also brushed as well sunday night before going to bed with us. Yesterday (Monday) - Duke got a bath right after his walk so could the tick have been on my bed since sunday nite? The tick did not look like it has any blood in it so does that mean it hasnt bite anyone yet? Duke has also been licking his private part a lot this past weekend - could it be that the tick was there and might have bite him? We bagged all of the linens and will wash them all, I have never seen a tick so this is really scary to me. Any ideas or suggestions will help. |
Hi. Usually a biting tick will cause an itching sensation resulting in scratching moreso than licking. Even though you use a topical, ticks can still climb on your dog and hitchhike till it falls off somewhere (in your house). It is tick season, so just keep watch. Whenever I pet my dogs, I do a quick tick check. I look and feel for bumps all over both dogs...they think it's a massage! but I am checking for ticks. If the tick is completely flat, it has not fed recently. Whether it bit or not, can't tell. It might leave a small red spot that will last maybe a day or so. I also visually check the bed before I get in it for ticks. Hope this helps... |
