Cheese? Jackson LOVES cheese. I will give him bits of cheese for trick training because it gets him REALLY motivated lol. Is cheese OK to give him? He's never had any problems with it but I'm just curious. Is there a certain kind of cheese better than another? I simply give him the regular slices of cheese that we eat and keep in our fridge, it's just White American cheese. I break it up in pieces when I give it to him. |
dairy products aren't really good for them, but, a little here and there shouldn't hurt him. I use cheese to put pills in sometimes. I know dogs do love that stuff. ;) |
Hey Brittany...I give Snick mozzarella string cheese every time I cut his nails, trim his fur, brush his teeth, or clean his eyes, so he gets a few strands every other day. He does have infrequent gas which could be from the cheese, but I'm not worried. If I say "cheese" he will stand still for me to clean him up. ;) It's worth it to me:) |
i give morgan cheese all the time. She loves it so much you can't even say the word or any word sounding like it without her getting excited. |

All mine lovessssssssss it. They can hear the paper when I am unraping it in another room and here they come running. They so know what it is. |
I've never had a dog (yorkie or other) who did not LOVE cheese! A breeder once told me that she believed it reminded them of their mother's milk. (No idea if this is true or not.) I think as long as you feed in moderation it won't hurt them. My boys love every kind of cheese - cheddar, swiss, munster, american...you name it. |
OMG!!! My Peek a Boo ended up with pancreatitis bc my DH was feeding him cheese every morning. He started out slowly with a 1/4 slice but in 2 weeks he was giving him a whole slice. It's really way too rich for these little dogs. I saw my Peek a Boo acting weird, and did the test (positive reaction), asked my DH if he had been feeding him anything and how much and how often, and took him immediately to the Vet's office. After $200.00 vet bill that DH paid, crying, I explained that that was very cheap bc we caught it early. Bad cases of pancreatitis usually require no food, IV's and hospitalization for a week at the tune of $1000.00+. Worth the risk???? Not in our house! |
Cheese is okay for most dogs but with the exception of cottage, I wouldn't reocmmend it at all. Some of it is very high in fat and most cheese is quite rich. I just don't think it is one of the better treats out there but a little bit on occasion for most dogs should be okay. |
Kjc..sorry to hear about what happened to your PeekABoo!! How terrible!! Of course I think it should be given in moderation. Like I said a few strands/shreads every so often has not harmed Snickers, but definitely monitor ANYTHING you give your pup. |
Cheese is the only way Tatum will take a pill (monthly flea/heartworm medication). That's the only time she gets a little piece though. But still, she can hear a piece of cheese being unwrapped from across the house! |
Interesting. I give Buddy a piece of 2% yellow cheese stuffed in one of his bones every Fri night when I have a pizza. It's the only way I can eat without his staring at me. He is bigger than most of your babies and I have had no problem. It's been about 4yrs since doing this. |
